PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
General Functions:
A teacher serves under the direct supervision of a building principal and/or assistant principal. Teachers are responsible for the students assigned to their care and for the supervision of teacher assistants assigned to their classroom.
A teacher has the responsibility to help students develop skills and knowledge consistent with the district’s curriculum and goals that will contribute to the students’ development as mature, able and responsible adults. Teachers are responsible for maintaining a classroom climate which nurtures and supports the learning environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree / Master’s Degree
Teacher Certification with required endorsements for subject or grade level assigned
Texas certified and highly qualified to meet state and federal guidelines
Reading Academies required
ESL Certified is strongly preferred, all elementary teachers being hired into the district after May 2014 must be ESL certified.
All teachers must have attended the GT trainings, and Montessori Certified (preferred but not required - willing to train and be certified as a Montessori 3-6 teacher)

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Instructional Strategies – The teacher shall:
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district’s curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required.
- Post all students' grades by Friday for parents to stay abreast of their child’s academic progress.
- Use the Montessori materials appropriately and consistently
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences.
- Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, Board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials, and technology that reflect accommodation for individual needs of students assigned.
- Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results for instructional activities and tutoring.
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established by Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
- Review various data sources but not limited to I-Station, DMAC, Think through Math, etc..
- Use the Outdoors as an extended classroom to teach various subjects
- Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and or volunteer(s).
- Integrate technologies in the teaching/learning process.
- Develop meaningful student individual work plans for all students.
- Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of independent study.
- Consistently assess student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Assume responsibility for one extracurricular activity or a sponsored club.
- Be a positive role model for students.
- Attend PTO, board meetings, and staff meetings.
- Support the mission, vision and goal of the school district.
Classroom Management and Organization – The teacher shall:
- Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Maintain a prepared environment free from clutter, dust, and dis-organization
- Manage student behavior in the classroom and administer discipline according to school policies, administrative regulations, Love and Logic, EFWMA Student Code of Conduct, and IEP.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Montessori materials, resources and technology should be accounted for at the end of each day.
- Assist in the selection of appropriate instructional materials.
Communication – The teacher shall:
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents, principals and other colleagues.
- Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Refrain from gossip and slander
- Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Keep the principal fully informed with respect to conditions and needs of the classroom and of new techniques and materials being used.
- Receive consequence for unprofessionalism, tardiness, excessive absences and lack of interest/attention to his or her job responsibilities
- Stay abreast with communication via email or announcements
Professional Growth and Development – The teacher shall:
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, committee meetings, and work sessions as required by the principal.
- Exhibit professional judgment and responsibility at all times.
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and electronic reports, records, and other documents as required.
- Report grades in the grade book every Friday or Sunday.
- Promote professional improvement through reading educational journals and books, exploring educational research, enrolling in college courses, participating in staff development activities, and membership in professional organizations.
- Read, follow, and abide by all rules, regulations, and policies of EFWMA District and follow directives from superiors.
- Follow attendance policy as assigned by the supervisor. Teachers arrive at 7:30a.m. and the day ends at 4:00p.m. unless, on Thursdays which are set aside as Prof Development days.
- Teachers are required to maintain 150 clock hours of P.D therefore EFWMA district requires teachers to maintain 30hours of P.D a school year. 9 hours of the 30 hours should be hours during the summer.
- Perform other functions that may be assigned by the Administration and/or supervisor.
Policy Implementation – The teacher shall:
- Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, district philosophy, board policies, and present subject matter according to established guidelines.
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
- Stay abreast of all policies
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES – The teacher shall:
Supervise assigned teacher aide(s).
