Shipping Expediter
About the Job: The Shipping Expeditor will work under the direction of the Shipping/Warehouse Manager and will report to the Shipping Supervisor. Must be detailed oriented, organized, safety conscious, ability to multitask with a high degree of accuracy while meeting deadlines, and works well under pressure in a fast paced environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain effective communications between all departments by answering phone calls and emails, assisting in a professional and timely manner.
- Maintain clean and organized shipping area, desk, files, staging areas for shipments and deliveries, adhere to all safety standards set forth.
- Print Orders/BOL’s, and inspect for accurate item counts, weights, freight class, ship to, ship from, carrier information, customer required special delivery instructions, as well as verify accuracies of COLLECT or 3PL billing when appropriate.
- Properly sign bill of lading (BOL) with legal name as a receipt and contract of freight services.
- Maintain accurate records of shipments as pulling and shipping activities occur, including updating ship logs and shipment entry into Starship.
- Notify Customer Service and Shipping Supervisor of inventory variances including inventory depletion when orders are directly affected.
- Inspect staged orders for accuracy of product, quantity, FIFO, and carrier information.
- Coordinate and schedule order pickups with customers (CPUs) and authorized freight carriers in accordance with routing instructions such as email, phone call, carrier web portal, etc.
- Maintain Starship system when LTL/FTL have shipped ensuring correct batch is utilized.
- Enter and maintain ARN/ASN process for all EDI customers. Research solutions to error messages.
- Work according to policies, procedures, and work instructions.
- All other assignments as requested by management.
Skills and Competencies:
- Must be knowledgeable with outbound freight logistics for small parcel (UPS/FedEx), LTL, FTL, CPU, etc., including, but not limited to freight classification, differing carrier requirements, etc.
- Must be knowledgeable with labeling and shipping compliance requirements
- Must be able to follow written, oral instructions and retain and carry out multiple work assignments
- Excellent communication and skills and can effectively communicate both written and verbally
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time, incoming calls, and emails effectively
- Must be able to problem solve with ability and initiative to work independently
- Must be knowledgeable with Word, Excel, Outlook, MAS/ERP, TMS, and RF scanner experience.
- Must be proficient in basic math skills, such as adding, subtracting, multiplication and division
- Must be able to stand or sit for entire shift and repeatedly push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, climb ladders and lift up to 50 pounds
- Must be adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands and able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events
Minimum Education and Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Experienced in shipping/receiving/inventory control or production required. Experience within a GMP manufacturing environment preferred.
