Join Our Team Dedicated to Supporting Deaf Plus Individuals
We are actively looking for a Sign Language Interpreter to provide ASL interpretation services and help expand support services to Deaf and Hard of Hearing (D/HH) clients who have additional developmental or intellectual disabilities (Deaf Plus). This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about making a difference in their community and is looking to develop a career in sign language interpreting.
**This is a full-time position that requires in-person interpretation. Hours include interpretation and related administrative/program development tasks***
Your Responsibilities:
- Provide sign language interpretation services to facilitate communication and ensure access throughout all areas of the organization for Deaf/Hard of Hearing (D/HH) supported individuals and employees.
- Interpret requests from clients with autism and other intellectual and/or developmental disabilities concerning direct support needs, wants and desires to promote autonomy, and etc.
- Assist in developing our Deaf Plus Services Department including helping with improving internal communications, supporting existing Deaf and Hard of Hearing staff, and social media/outreach efforts.
- Translate written materials and videos into ASL or other sign languages.
- Interpret employee requests regarding supported individual/staff meetings, supported individual medical appointments, JNCS policies, and etc.
- Attend meetings including department meetings, staff supervision meetings, supported individual in-services, quarterly program meetings, and training for staff that require interpreting.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards of conduct.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High level of proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is required.
- EIPA Certification / Certification from the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years ASL Interpreting experience.
Preferred:
- Experience in interpreting in various settings such as educational, medical, legal, or community events is a plus.
- Comprehensive understanding of Deaf Culture.
- Fluency in English/Spanish preferred
- Experience in Sight Translation is highly desirable.
