SUMMARY
Instructs children in developmentally appropriate activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth needed for child development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise and assist children ages 2 years to 3 years of age with general routines, including mealtime, bathroom/potty training activities, diaper changes, potty training plan, rest-time, personal hygiene, learning activities, and nurturing care .
- Provide planning and execution of appropriate early childhood education experiences using Emergent Curriculum, with a variety of materials in the fields of art, music, literature, science, mathematics, dramatics, and physical education.
- Plans and supervises activities which promote the healthy emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of each child.
- Maintain professional attitude at all times.
- Maintain professional relationships with peers, colleagues, and administrative staff members. Professional relationship includes respect, honesty, communication, active listening, appropriate tone of voice and mannerisms, non-gossip, conflict resolution, and willingness to demonstrate team work in any and all situations.
- Follow requirements and guidelines established by the Department of Social Services Title 22 and NAEYC Accreditation.
- Provide and maintain a neat organized classroom and outside environment; take responsibility for upkeep of all educational equipment and materials.
- Maintain and keep current portfolios and desired results for each child and classroom portfolios.
- Prepare lesson plans, classroom calendar, and daily schedule with classroom team players.
- Attending all staff meetings, required staff in-services, and special/classroom events.
- Complete child injury reports accurately and in a timely manner and inform parents of injuries and illnesses according to Calvary Preschool policy.
- Greet and provide assistance to families. Inform families of upcoming activities.
- Maintain confidentiality of children, parents, and fellow staff members.
- Plans and participates in parent conferences and other parent involvement activities.
- Model appropriate teacher – child interactions, teacher – teacher interactions, and teacher – parent interactions.
Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise substitute teachers, interns and volunteers.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
-12 Early Childhood Education units, preferably working towards an AA Degree in Child Development
-A minimum of 3 years child care experience
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, and to speak effectively before groups of parents and/or employees of organization.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
PERMITS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Eligibility for Child Development Associate Teacher Permit.
- Positive Health Screening Report.
- Clearance of TB test.
- Clearance from the Department of Justice and Child Abuse Index.
- Clearance of Immunization Requirements
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to walk and sit. The employee must occasionally lift children of up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
