For candidates who have completed an American Association of Medical Assistants accredited program Harvard Street will reimburse your certification examination fees along with recertification fees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receives patients in courteous and professional manner
- Prepare and drapes patients for examination.
- Take vital signs, height and weight on patients.
- Per doctor's request and under his/her supervision: takes EKG's, performs diagnostic tests;
- Assist the physician with patient exams, treatment and minor surgery.
- Assist in the collection of specimens (PAP smears, throat cultures).
- Instruct patients regarding proper preparation for test ordered by physician.
- Sterilize instruments and assume maintenance of diagnostic equipment.
- Dispose of contaminated and disposable items.
- Handle emergencies: seek help from nurse or physician, describe nature of patient’s illness or injury, position patient in safe and comfortable position, apply first aid if necessary, and take lab reports.
- Schedules patients’ appointments as needed.
- Stock supply rooms and place orders.
- Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATION REOUIREMENTS:
- Work requires advanced communication and organizational skills in order to work effectively and clinicians; employee must be able to articulate the department goals and policies.
- Work requires the ability and flexibility to work in a fast paced, handling a wide range of responsibilities; prioritize and work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
EDUCATION, SKILLS and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant Education Program.
- Demonstrate leadership and decision making capabilities.
- Ability to speak a second language other English is helpful.
