Mill Valley Nursery School (MVNS) is looking for a warm and engaging Teacher for our cooperative, play-based, Reggio Emilia inspired preschool program. Our Teacher works alongside our Director to teach our multi-age class of 2.9 to 5-year-old children and their participating parents.
Ideal candidates will have deep commitment to and passion for learning along with a growth mindset, previous experience in a parent-participation preschool model, some expertise in co-creating an inquiry-based curriculum and documenting learning, knowledge of child development, love and respect for young children and their capabilities, and interest in serving an evolving school community.
Roles & Responsibilities
The teacher will perform the following duties in accordance with the ethics and standards of current practices and follow the MVNS By-Laws, Standing Rules, Policies, and Procedures:
- The teacher provides daily care and supervision of children enrolled in the MVNS program, works directly with families, and collaborates with the preschool team
- Ensures the safety and supports the wellbeing (social, emotional, physical, cognitive) of all children enrolled in the program
- Supports the Director in planning and preparing curriculum inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, aligned with clear intentions, and best practices for young children
- Assists in observation, documentation, and reflection of individual and group experiences and works collaboratively to collect, display, and disseminate documentation of growth, development, and learning
- Builds positive, supportive relationships with families and guides parents working in the classroom
- Participates in professional development meetings, workshops, and conferences
- Ensures proper maintenance and cleanliness of the school and supplies daily
- Keep up-to-date on first aid and CPR certification, and any other requirements of licensing
- Works in a combination of indoor and outdoor environments, including occasional high noise levels, widely varying temperatures, varying levels of light, and inclement weather
- Other duties as necessary
Qualifications
Required:
- At least 12 semester units in early childhood education and at least 50 days of teaching experience over six months
- Knowledge of child development, developmentally-appropriate practices, and play and inquiry-based learning
- Must be able to effectively communicate with children and parents
- Have or be willing to obtain current CPR and First Aid training, mandated reporting training and Integrated Pest Management training pertaining to pesticides
- Obtain a new TB test with negative result or TB risk assessment, and comply with California immunization and reporting requirements (Measles, and Pertussis vaccines are up-to-date)
- Have up-to-date COVID vaccination
- Must provide proof of LiveScan and criminal record clearance through DOJ Child Abuse Index and be eligible to work in the U.S.
Desired:
- Previous experience (as a teacher or parent) in a parent-participation preschool setting
- 5+ years preschool teaching experience
- Experience or desire to learn about Reggio Emilia inspired, social constructivist, culturally-sensitive, and anti-bias practice
Compensation & Schedule
- Hourly wage of $26 per hour
- Part-time position
- Paid holidays if it lands on your work day
- Monday through Friday, 9:00am-3:00pm (preschool class is in session from 9:00am-2:00pm) during the school year of late August through early June
