Structural Forensic Engineer, P.E.
Job Description:
Geohazards Forensic Engineering LLC is an expanding, privately-owned company. Our firm was founded in 1985 as a geological services company but has expanded to include forensic engineering services, mostly conducting investigations of existing buildings and structures.
We are looking for licensed professional engineers with preferably a civil or structural engineering background to conduct forensic engineering inspections. Ideal candidates would be located in Illinois or any of the Midwestern states, willing to travel, and licensed in these states or have the ability to obtain these licenses.
Engineers would be expected to work out of their home/office, conducting forensic engineering investigations of buildings and other structures for a wide variety of problems. The primary focus of the job involves determining the cause, origin, and duration of reported damages. This involves travel to various sites (typically, single family residences). Once the site investigation is completed, a draft report (using our templates) is then written from your remote location and sent to our headquarters for a thorough peer review.
Experience in this field is required.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering is preferred.
- One year minimum of Forensic Structural Engineering experience is required.
- P.E. license in the state of residence is required. Licenses in other states or ability to obtain licenses in the Midwestern area of the United States is preferred.
- Prefer candidates to have roof inspection experience on all types of roof systems, especially single-family homes (shingles, tile). Must be willing and comfortable performing these types of investigations on two-story structures using a ladder. Ladder assists are available when needed.
- Experience in all common types of forensic engineering investigations is preferred, especially water damage. Being able to pinpoint the cause and origin of water damage and establish duration is extremely important to our clients.
- Ability to communicate with our clients in a technical and professional manner by telephone, email, and in person, and summarize your findings in your reports.
- High skill level in technical writing, and the ability to put together a complete report with photographic references in a timely manner.
- Manage multiple investigations and reports simultaneously and complete the assignments within the provided timelines.
Benefits:
- Work remotely from your home office when not performing inspections. Independent work environment, but with the technical support of an established and experienced company.
- Salaried employees have a full range of benefits, including paid time off, health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, retirement plan, and both short-term and long-term disability insurance. Employees also receive a company vehicle, computer, and credit card for business expenses.
- Independent Subcontractors are paid according to an agreed upon fee schedule at a highly competitive rate.
Salary:
- Salary $80,000 to $120,000 per year; commensurate with experience.
