Job Summary:
Assess and Recover patients. Assist MDs during procedures. Handles the instruments, supplies and equipment; anticipates the needs of the procedure room team; and communicates effectively with the team to ensure efficient quality patient care.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Reviews the procedure room schedule at the beginning of the day to plan and prepare instrument and equipment needs.
2. Assist the procedure room in setting up room equipment, opening supplies and instruments.
3. Adheres to OSHA standards and center infection control policies and procedures.
4. Performs inventory to ensure that adequate stocks of supplies are available in the procedure rooms. Assists with discharge of supplies ordered. Notifies the nurse manager of the need to order supplies.
5. Transport patients into procedure rooms. Ensures that the patient is comfortable and positioned properly.
6. Anticipates assists and provides supplies and instruments for physician.
7. Assists the Endoscopist during the procedure, obtain biopsies, snare polyps and other tissue; provide abdominal pressure as necessary, label and log pathology specimens, etc.
8. Maintains clean technique during procedure.
9. Ensures proper handling of the specimens with procedure room nurse
10. Transport patient to Post-Procedure area with the anesthesiologist/CRNA.
11. Cleans up and maintains procedure rooms in good order before, between, and after cases. May transport soiled scopes in an appropriate manner to scope washing room.
12. May prepare instruments for cleaning and disinfection.
13. Assists with cleaning of the procedure room between cases and sets up for the next case.
14. Assess patients prior to procedures. Set up intravenous access and communicate all pertinent information to anesthesiologist
15. Monitor and recover patients safely after procedures.
16. Assist with patients in preop and postop. Disinfect bays and beds after patients.
17. Any and all other related duties as assigned by the nurse manager and administrator.
