General duties
1. Develop qualified, repeatable molding processes. Document those processes and maintain the process documentation in the tool process files and binder.
2. Develop sustainable Preventive maintenance programs for injection molding tools.
a. In conference with the General Manager and the Tooling Manager, the costs of such a program will be established on a tool-by-tool basis.
b. Some costs may be determined to be directly charged to the customers, and others may be considered part of normal production costs. For example, routine tool cleaning and preservation coatings are considered “normal,” but repair of eroded gates and vents are not, unless specifically part of a sales agreement.
3. Develop sustainable Preventive Maintenance programs for machinery used in our injection molding operations.
a. Establish the maintenance tasks and frequency of performing each task.
b. Create task list forms for use by the people assigned the specific tasks.
c. Insure compliance of the maintenance program. The shift leaders may assist in this requirement.
4. The The Process Technician is expected to maintain a professional attitude towards timeliness. This is not a remote work position.

6. Work hours
a. This may be a shift position. The lead technician is expected to work an approximately first shift schedule.
b. Stable processes are vital to an orderly progression of work through the company. As such, the start and end times of this position may vary with the type of work scheduled.
7. The Process Technician is expected to enable the production department to be successful.
a. The Process Technician works with the production shift leaders, the tooling and equipment maintenance staffs, and direct operators so the best work is accomplished.
b. Shift leaders are expected to understand the skills of their staff and work with the Process Technician to select the staff best suited to be trained to produce products with the instructions of the Process Technician. For example, some products may require level two or three staff.
c. Some product/process combinations may require formal approval for the selected production staff. That document is expected to be part of the manufacturing documentation.
8. Equipment applicability: From historical data and experience, the Production Technician needs to be able to correctly choose the best and second-best equipment options for each product.
a. The Process technician must qualify the tooling in chosen machines before releasing the process to production.
b. Records of the process used in each qualified work center must become part of the process documentation in the tool process files and binder.
9. Priorities: The Process technician works with the Scheduling Master to meet the priorities for the Production Department schedules.
10. ERP/MRP: The Process Technician is expected to be proficient in the use of the ERP system with respect to providing the data required to enable the system to operate correctly.
a. Skills in verifying data: providing data for the system, verifying revision level history, and verifying the correct data is used in the production process.
b. Assist the Master Scheduler with press selection and run time optimization for maximum press utilization.
c. Develop guidelines for work order quantities to reflect optimal quantities between tool and equipment PM schedules.
11. Human Skills:
a. The process technician must be able to convey the reasons for the processes used to produce each product.
b. The process technician must accept feedback from the rest of the manufacturing operation relative to process issues and offer explanations for the current processes.
c. The ability to accept the needs of the production department without frustration is essential to the success of a process technician.
12. Vision: The Production Technician needs to be looking ahead for the upcoming challenges as part of the everyday routine. Being able to see challenges while there are still opportunities to reduce or eliminate them enables the Production Technician to be more successful, and do the same for the production team.
Routine Duties for Prodouction Technicians:
1. Develop processes for primary equipment
2. Develop PM schedules for molds and equipment
3. Verify the accuracy of production process data, e.g. production machine set-up.
4. Develop plans for process improvements
5. Verify the accuracy of data in the ERP system and correct as necessary.
6. Revision Control: Maintain records of changes to the ERP System Data relative to processes
7. Order, or submit purchase requisitions for equipment repairs, essential tooling for mold installation
8. Compare schedule plans to actual process capability. Discuss options for corrections with shift leaders and management.
9. Review production output via our ERP system
10. Develop tool condition reports and submit to the toolroom
11. Develop and maintain a positive work environment
No job description is complete. There are other aspects of our manufacturing operation which may require a process technician to have a flexible approach to their days and participate in work not fully identified in this document.
Qualifications:
Production Technicians:
1. Need to be able to start, stop, and restart a variety of injection molding machines.
2. Instruct production workers on their duties:
a. Semi-automatic molding machine operations
b. Automatic molding machine operations
c. Identification product defects
d. Hand-finishing operations such as de-gating and de-flashing molded parts
e. Safe conduct and safe machine operations
f. Material replenishment7
g. Part counting via Tare Weight scales
h. Install and remove tools safely and correctly in all molding machines
i. Set conditions for material drying
j. Establish correct regrind percentages and controls
3. Develop and record qualified production processes
4. Perform Machine, Tool, and Process Corrective Actions and Process Improvement Actions
5. Keep process records to company standards
6. Assess material consumption and scrap rates in comparison to company standards
7. Have experience with product standards and methods to verify them
8. The ability to function in a Microsoft Office software environment, especially Word and excel.
