Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Supplier Quality Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and improving the quality of components and materials supplied to our manufacturing plants. This role involves working closely with suppliers to ensure that all products meet our stringent quality standards and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supplier Management:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Conduct regular supplier audits to assess and verify their quality management systems, manufacturing processes, and adherence to regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate and select suppliers based on their ability to meet quality, delivery, and cost requirements.
- Collaborate with suppliers to develop and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for any quality issues.
- Quality Assurance:
- Ensure all supplied materials and components meet the specified quality standards.
- Develop and implement incoming inspection procedures and quality control plans.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for non-conforming products.
- Monitor supplier performance metrics and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of supplier audits, inspections, and quality performance.
- Prepare and present regular quality reports to management and stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards, including ISO/TS 16949, IATF 16949, and other automotive quality standards.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and procurement teams to address quality issues and support new product development.
- Participate in cross-functional teams to resolve quality issues and improve overall product quality.
- Provide technical support and guidance to suppliers to enhance their quality processes.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process improvements within the supply chain and drive initiatives to enhance quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
- Lead and participate in lean manufacturing and Six Sigma projects to improve supplier quality and reduce waste.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Assurance, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in supplier quality engineering, preferably in the automotive industry.
- Proven experience with supplier audits, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of automotive quality standards (ISO/TS 16949, IATF 16949).
- Proficiency in quality tools and methodologies (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, MSA).
- Experience with statistical analysis software and tools (e.g., Minitab).
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Certifications:
- Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or similar certification is preferred.
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification is a plus.
Additional Requirements:
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (Canada and Mexico) to conduct supplier audits and assessments.
- Valid driver’s license and passport.
