Job Description:
As the General Manager of our machine shop, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing all aspects of our operations to ensure efficiency, quality, and profitability. You will be responsible for leading an 80 man team of skilled machinists, fabricators, and support staff while driving continuous improvement initiatives and fostering a culture of excellence. With 78 CNC machines and 26 manual machines, our machining capability is impressive. Furthermore on top of the salary offered there is a performance based incentive compensation plan that makes this job offer very lucrative.
Key Responsibilities:
1. **Operational Leadership:** Provide strategic direction and leadership to optimize production processes, scheduling, and workflow to meet customer demands and deadlines. You must lead by example in work ethic, attendance, attitude, and initiative.
2. **Team Management:** Supervise and mentor a diverse team of machinists, fabricators, engineers, and administrative staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture. You must be a problem solver.
3. **Quality Assurance:** Ensure adherence to strict quality standards and procedures, implementing measures to maintain and improve product quality.
4. **Resource Management:** Manage resources effectively, including personnel, equipment, materials, and inventory, to maximize productivity and minimize costs.
5. **Customer Relations:** Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, understanding their needs, and ensuring exceptional service and satisfaction. Our customers are technically competent and interactions with their engineering staff is necessary and commonplace.
6. **Financial Management:** Drive financial performance by monitoring budgets, expenses, and revenue streams, identifying opportunities for cost savings and revenue growth. Interact with with our sister company, and their accounting and HR departments which handle these duties for us. Profitability is a key metric which will be assessed on a regular basis.
7. **Health & Safety Compliance:** Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and standards, promoting a safe working environment for all employees.
8. **Continuous Improvement:** Lead initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, productivity, and quality through process optimization, technology upgrades, and training programs.
9. **Strategic Planning:** Collaborate with senior management to develop and implement strategic plans, goals, and initiatives aligned with the company's objectives.
10. **Reporting:** Prepare regular reports and updates for senior management on key performance metrics, operational issues, and strategic initiatives. You will answer to the company's Board of Directors of their assignee.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or related field (Master's degree preferred), or experienced manager with successful history in large machine shop operation and special knowledge of detailed machined parts. Some projects are very challenging and require certain expertise.
- Proven experience (10+ years) in a managerial role within a modern CNC machine shop or manufacturing environment.
- Strong, hands-on technical knowledge of machining processes, CNC programming, machine set-ups, fabrication techniques, and quality control systems.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and develop teams to achieve organizational goals.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Libre-Open Office suite, Microsoft Office suite and ERP/MRP systems.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in a manufacturing setting.
