The Yale Center for Environmental Justice is seeking an experienced administrative assistant for a part-time temporary position (covering maternity leave).
The Yale Center for Environmental Justice (YCEJ) is a joint undertaking between Yale School of the Environment (YSE), Yale Law School (YLS), and the Yale Center for the Study of Race, Indigeneity, and Transnational Migration (RITM). The Yale Center for Environmental Justice(YCEJ) is committed to catalyzing partnerships and expanding interdisciplinary research, teaching, and practice in environmental justice, and strengthening institutional capacity to empower frontline communities to lead change. In addition, YCEJ promotes an expanded definition of environmental justice, recognizing the lived experiences and interconnected systemic inequities that shape environmental inequality.
The YCEJ Administrative Assistant is responsible for the administrative functions in support of YCEJ’s programs and events. Working collaboratively with YCEJ staff and faculty, the Administrative Assistant will: Manage all YCEJ expenses and fellowship disbursements, Coordinate and book travel and lodging related to all YCEJ’s activities, Manage administrative documentation related to fellowships and student hires, Support YCEJ event and meeting planning as needed. This is a temporary position for 10 hours a week. Processes expenses related to YCEJ activities including reimbursements, honoraria, fellowship disbursements, and travel and lodging expenses. Manage administrative documentation and processing for student fellowships and student hires. Coordinate with faculty, staff, and guests to coordinate and book travel related to YCEJ activities. Leads the coordination of YCEJ events and meetings including coordinating with presenters to secure necessary documentation, arranging travel and lodging, catering and group meals where applicable, and logistical support. Leads the administration of the Environmental Justice Research Fellowship using the Student Grants portal including keeping all fellowship materials up to date, securing necessary documentation, processing fellowship disbursements, and communications with current and previous fellows around fellowship timelines. Support YCEJ communications, including website, newsletters, and social media. Other duties as assigned

Required Education and Experience: Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate’s degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor’s degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Required Skill/Ability 1: Prior demonstrated ability with administrative and financial functions at Yale.
Required Skill/Ability 2:Excellent oral and written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Required Skill/Ability 3:Strong ability to work with stakeholders from diverse communities (indigenous, low-income, Black, People of Color, LGBTQ+) that are often under-represented in research and higher education.
Required Skill/Ability 4:Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Demonstrated planning and organizational skills.
Required Skill/Ability 5:Highly proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Workday. Experience with Yale’s Business Office policies and procedures preferred.
