Job Summary: The Mental Health Specialist must demonstrate a commitment to delivering exceptional mental health services to our community. The Mental Health Specialist will serve as a member of the clinical multi-disciplinary treatment team, which develops, implements, and supports a comprehensive treatment and service plan for any youth and their family identified as needing behavioral health services. The Mental Health Specialist will play a pivotal role in providing counseling services, evidence-based groups, conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, and maintaining detailed clinical records. Collaboration with fellow healthcare professionals, a deep passion for our field, and continuous professional development are the foundation of our work.
Duties:
1. Ensures services are delivered in a manner that builds resiliency and supports youth in accordance with evidence-based practices and behavioral health treatment standards.
2. Provides behavioral health and rehabilitative services to youth including screening, assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning and counseling.
3. Conducts initial intake assessments and/or psychosocial summaries in order to assist with treatment planning and supportive counseling interventions.
4. Provides crisis intervention(s) in order to respond to psychiatric and behavioral health acute episodes.
5. Documents, coordinates, and collaborates with clinical and non-clinical staff
6. Responsible for providing individual and therapeutic group counseling to residents who are diagnosed with mental illness and co-occurring disorders.
7. Provides substance abuse prevention and psychoeducation to individuals.
8. Participates in quality improvement and assurance activities; Performing family focused treatment interventions and clinical case management services to improve family functioning
9. Utilizes proficient knowledge of community and other District of Columbia non profit, private and governmental resources available.
10. Conducts clinical training for clinical and non-clinical staff.
Qualifications and Experience: Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or a related field.
License Requirements: Licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), or Licensed Psychologist in the District of Columbia.
Experience: 3 years minimum, proven experience in providing counseling services to a diverse clientele.
Compensation: Compensation is $40 per hour. All candidates who are hired will receive a contract and will be compensated at the end of the program.
