Tasting Room Attendant Job Description
We are hiring a part-time tasting room attendant (1-3 shifts a week with potential for more in the future). Ono Brewing Company is a brewery with a self-serve beer wall. There is no "bar" with a typical bartender. The employees who manage the tasting room and interface with customers are called tasting room attendants and have similar responsibilities as a restaurant "host" and "bartender" combined, but they just don't actually pour the beer for the customers. The ideal candidate will be passionate about beer, committed to providing the highest level of customer service, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Strong customer service experience and a desire to learn about beer and the craft beer production process in the brewery are essential. Flexible scheduling with some weekend availability required.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Customer interactions:
- Greet customers, check ID and open/close bar tabs using point of sale software
- Activate customer beer card for customers and explain how self-serve system works and how to pour beer properly
- Apply knowledge of craft beer styles to educate customers and assist customers in making beer selections
- Answer customer questions about our beer options and the brewing process
- Monitor tasting room to ensure all consumers are over 21 years of age
- Know when and how to tell a customer who has had too much to drink that they may not have more (covered in training)
- Sell merchandise to customers
Maintenance of bar and tasting room:
- Responsible for clean and safe tasting room environment at all times
- Perform open and closing duties
- Maintain glass stock at bar- Clear empty glasses from tables, wash glasses and restock bar with clean glasses.
- Clean bar, wipe down tables, arrange seating and sweep/mop at end of shift as needed during shift
- Light cleaning/restocking of bathrooms as needed before/during/after shift
- Maintain stock of merchandise behind bar
Requirements:
- Warm and friendly, outgoing, professional, reliable, and trustworthy
- Strong team player with demonstrated ability to work well with others in a fun and fast paced environment.
- Ability and desire to become knowledgeable about:
- Beer and the basics of the brewing process in general (training will be provided)
- Our beer styles and our business in particular
- Take Virginia ABC Manager course (online or in person) and pass final quiz with score of 80% or higher
- Must be 21+ years of age
- Must be willing to work weekend shifts
- 1 year minimum of customer service experience preferred
$18.25-23 hourly wage includes average share of tips.
