The Georgetown Center on Poverty & Inequality is hiring a Senior Policy Analyst.
Job Overview
The Senior Policy Analyst conducts highest level policy analysis; leads long-term, complex, mixed-methods research projects; and produces shorter-term analyses on a wide range of issues relating to economic security and opportunity. Research methods may include: collecting and analyzing data to identify underlying social and economic problems, and evaluating the effects of existing policies and government programs.
They complete robust research and analysis; conceptualize new projects; contribute to the center’s external engagement priorities and activities; and represent the center at public events, in the media, and in external meetings; and develop and advance an effective and just policy and practice agenda on economic security for the United States.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Plan, manage, and execute long-term, complex, mixed-methods research projects and shorter-term policy analyses - aligning project goals and strategies, work planning, research, expert engagement, analysis, writing, presentations, budget monitoring, and reporting
- Develop, write, and promote publications and various supplemental materials and other activities to reach key audiences, including policymakers, administrators, allied organizations, media, funding partners, researchers, and students
- Assist Directors with fundraising strategy and contribute to proposals and grant reporting, engagement with funders, and other fundraising activities
- Explore and conceptualize new research and analysis ideas aligned with mission and goals
- Build and strengthen stakeholder partnerships
- Conduct external engagement activities with key audiences, such as education and technical assistance with policymakers, partners, funders, and other stakeholders
- Contribute to public-facing outreach and communications activities and events (in-person or on-camera), such as collaborating with communications staff to develop and implement dissemination and stakeholder and media engagement strategies for projects; publicizing projects and activities through meetings, public events, presentations, and media engagement; and conceptualizing and leading events and convenings
- Supervise staff and lead project teams
Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation
Reporting to the Program Director, the Senior Policy Analyst supervises Policy Analysts, Policy & Data Analysts, Fellows, Interns, and student Research Assistants in developing, advancing, and executing research projects and policy analysis.
This position has been designated as Hybrid. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Requirements and Qualifications
- Master’s degree (or equivalent experience)
- 5 to 7 years of experience advancing effective and just policies in the United States
- A commitment to GCPI’s mission
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep knowledge of a broad range of economic security, racial equity, and gender justice policy issues
- Established relationships and networks in economic justice policy field
- Experience developing sound research methodologies, collecting, synthesizing, analyzing, and interpreting data and policies, and developing policy recommendations
- Excellent writing and communication skills, including the ability to synthesize and clearly express complex ideas tailored for various audiences
- Race, class, and gender equity and inclusion experience, skills, and values
- Experience leading teams, supervising and mentoring staff, and managing projects and timelines with a high level of independence
- Desire and ability to work in a highly collaborative, team-based environment
- Flexibility and enthusiasm for learning
