The Orange County Environmental Protection Division is seeking an Environmental Specialist II or Senior Environmental Specialist to provide professional level support of the Lake Management Program that manages approximately 13,000 surface acres of lakes in Orange County. The successful candidate will serve as lake manager and liaison to multiple lake taxing districts and advisory boards, evaluate aquatic plant and water quality data, develop lake management plans, implement water quality best management practices, and manage several term contracts. Coordinates MSTU/MSBU advisory board meetings, performs field activities, and prepares environmental documents, reports and budgets. Ideal candidates must have high attention to detail, excellent communication skills and proficient computer skills. The position may be filled as an Environmental Specialist II or Senior Environmental Specialist depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
Job Description
Representative Duties/Assignments
Oversee Lake MSTUs and MSBUs, advisory boards, budgets, and expenses.
Management of water quality improvement and stormwater projects, term contracts, and budget expenditures.
Develop integrated aquatic plant management plans and participate in aquatic plant surveys.
Plan, pursue, coordinate, and budget all available funding options and grant sources for the continued implementation of needed/identified water quality improvement projects.
Responsible for scientific review and interpretation of water quality data, as well as technical review of limnological studies.
Coordinate lake management plans and projects with other county divisions, state agencies, and local municipalities.
Track data for NPDES and TMDL/BMAP reporting requirements.
Participate in studies, surveys, and specialized research.
Attend public meetings, make presentations, and provide public assistance.
Attend after hours meetings as necessary.
Train new staff in proper procedures and techniques.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Environmental Specialist II
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in Environmental or Civil Engineering, the natural sciences, or a related field and one year environmental experience.
Must be able to perform job related tasks, which would include but not be limited to: climbing, walking over uneven ground, exposure to dust and fumes, and occasional exposure to adverse weather.
Required to possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver license.
Senior Environmental Specialist
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelors Degree and major course work in Environmental or Civil Engineering, Geology, the natural sciences, or a related field and three years of environmental experience.
Must be able to perform job related tasks, which would include but not be limited to: climbing, walking over uneven ground, lifting up to 50 pounds, exposure to dust and fumes, and occasional exposure to adverse weather.
Required to possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver license
