Organization Profile: Magnificat Houses, Inc. (MHI) began in 1968 with the vision of one woman who wanted to create a welcoming community where those needing housing, food, mental health support and spiritual guidance could grow in stability, productivity, and independence. Now, 55 years later, MHI still carries out the founder’s vision. Nestled in Midtown Houston, MHI serves thousands of homeless individuals seeking a new start. The organization operates neighborhood residences, Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen, a Clubhouse, skills-based training, Anawim Thrift Store, and an emergency shelter for homeless men and women.
Position Summary:
MHI Volunteer Coordinator works closely with the Director of Development by providing overall strategy and execution of a robust volunteer program to support the needs of the organization. Create and maintain a budget for volunteer activities, and a software system to capture volunteer information. Actively participate in turning volunteers into donors for the organization.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILILTIES:
- Fields all inquiries from prospective volunteers.
- Actively recruits volunteers and community support for the organization among individuals and groups.
- Responsible for the coordination and leadership of volunteer programming throughout the organization, including group and individual volunteers.
- Serves as liaison with other departments regarding volunteer issues, needs or concerns.
- Interacts with and nurtures volunteers to increase volunteer retention and increase organizational support among constituents.
- Responsible for maintaining volunteer database, tracking volunteer hours, managing and submitting employer match program documentation.
- Conducts and/or coordinates volunteer background checks, orientation, and training.
- Creation and implementation of community outreach/fundraising activities, including planning, promoting and organizing events, including site selection, logistical arrangements, purchasing supplies, promoting events, scheduling and being the primary point of contact for the event.
- Represents organization at external/internal gatherings.
- Assists with various components of organization’s events and campaigns in collaboration with team members and other staff.
- Performs other related work as required
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, bend and stoop for (long) periods of time.
- Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally/ frequently.
- Ability to respond to emergency/crisis situations.
- Exposure to noise.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $38,000.00 - $57,000.00 per year
