Performs heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) work in the construction, maintenance and repair of county property, systems, structures and equipment.
Education, Training, and Experience: High school diploma or GED; supplemented by two (2) years of specific experience that provides the ability to perform skilled to advanced-skilled tasks in the HVAC trade to include but not limited to knowledge and experience in computer automated HVAC and generator controls; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Licenses and/or Certifications: Certification in Freon/Refrigerant Handling and Recovery is required. Requires a valid driver license. May require a valid, Class ‘B’, commercial driver license (CDL) depending on assignment; if required, CDL must be obtained within twelve (12) months of hire.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to operate various hand-held manual, electrical and gas- powered equipment and tools. Must be able to exert 50 to 150 pounds of force occasionally, or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Requires prolonged periods of standing and walking. Requires full range of body motion in manipulation of limbs and torso for working on scaffolding, climbing ladders and/or working in confined spaces. Requires excellent equilibrium to prevent falling from narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work.
Language Ability: Requires the ability to communicate effectively in English, including the ability to convey, record and exchange information; requires the ability to explain procedures and to give, receive and follow oral and written instructions. Requires ability to read a variety of moderately complex technical data, policy and procedure manuals, codes, professional journals. Must be able to prepare forms and reports using prescribed formats, and adhering to all rules of grammar, spelling, diction and punctuation. Requires the ability to communicate with a broad array of individuals from various professional backgrounds.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions; to deal with problems involving concrete variables in situations where standardized exists; to make independent judgments in the absence of supervisor; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation.
Numerical Aptitude: Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide; determine weight; calculate decimals and percentages; compute ratio and proportion.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under minimal levels of stress. Requires the ability to exercise consistent tact and courtesy when in frequent contact with various professionals, county staff, and the general public.
