Position Summary:
SLSTeach Summer Ambassadors teachers are at the forefront of impacting students’ lives and academic skills during an advanced summer English language course. Our teachers are part of one of the nation’s most collaborative and professional learning communities. All of our teachers are fully ESL certified and use peer-reviewed, and research-based ESL pedagogy and instructional materials. Our teachers are given the autonomy and academic freedom to teach in the manner that benefits their students and suits them. They choose how best to create dynamic lessons that foster student enthusiasm for new ideas and high-level learning. They help guide students to reach their maximum potential while preparing them for advanced communication skills in varied and practical English-speaking environments. Teachers spend their time teaching engaged students and teaming up with fellow educators - creating an academic environment that is inspiring, supportive, and exciting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, Prepare, and Deliver engaging student-centered ESL lessons that encourage students to actively participate
- Promote and safeguard students' welfare for whom you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.
- Maximize student and group leader satisfaction by ensuring their experience meets or exceeds expectations.
- Play an active role in developing students’ ESL skills throughout their SLS Teach Summer Ambassador experience.
Specific duties include:
- To teach ESL lessons as required
- To lead lessons and activities using ESL methodology and teaching strategies.
- To ensure adequate preparation for all teaching and activity sessions
- To monitor students’ proficiency and track students’ progress
- To complete academic administration in a timely manner
- To attend all relevant meetings, workshops and feedback sessions
- To maintain proper levels of student discipline, safety and welfare
- To carry out other duties necessary for the proper running of the center
Organizational Compliance:
The job holder will be expected to operate in accordance with the company’s Code of Conduct, and our employee policy and operating procedures relating to academic, welfare and safeguarding matters.
Employees are required to cooperate fully with all arrangements in place related to Health and Safety which include implementation and compliance with control measures resultant from risk assessments and engagement with, and completion of, any relevant Health and Safety training.
Education Required:
- Valid ESL Certification
- US Teaching Certification
Experience Required:
- Experience of working in junior education

Working session:
- Seven teaching days out of a 12-day camp session (F, M, Tu, W, Th, F, M, *Tu)
- Weekends off
- 30 contact teaching hours per week

English Classes
Our ESL-certified teachers provide engaging English courses of up to 30 hours per student. All courses begin with a placement exam before students are matched with an ESL teacher according to their level. At the end of each session, students receive a signed certificate of completion.
Classes may take place at a local college or university, all locations are in popular cities. Students practice their English in iconic places such as Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Museum of Natural History, Dumbo, Bryant Park, and many more!
Being immersed in the life and culture of NYC adds a unique element to the classroom experience, as students can experience NYC life and culture first-hand in truly authentic settings. Students improve their English, expand their knowledge about America, practice their English in iconic settings, and live like true New Yorkers!
