Electronic Health Record Support Specialist
Purpose: Electronic Health Record Support Specialist (EHR Specialist) provides direct and indirect support to all users of EHR. The EHR Specialist will report to Chief Operating Officer or their designee. EHR Specialist tasks include redesigning workflows, facilitating end-user application training, support go-live activities, monitoring user adoption of existing and new workflows implemented, reporting findings and trends. This role is proactive in research of new features and functions and will assist the leadership with incorporating new methods into operating procedures. The EHR Specialist will provide ongoing training and support for all existing and new users and assist in applying EHR upgrades and enhancements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Functions as the primary point of contact and support for issues and requests relating to EHR, including troubleshooting and closing of EHR help desk tickets. Refers issues that require additional assistance to IT Help Desk or EHR vendor support desk.
· Ensures proper organization approval is received prior to making all EMR modifications.
· Develops, maintains, and updates training materials/videos/manuals/workflows for EHR user training programs. Delivers EHR training to new users, as well as training on new features to existing users.
· Serves as EHR point of contact for patient safety advisories, including managing notifications from EHR and communicating those to users, as appropriate.
- Maintains system integrity with proper user control throughout EHR while onboarding and offboarding employees.
- Ensures all users are optimizing EHR functionality. Conducts observations of users in their work environment to identify areas for improvement and suggestions for workflow redesign. Works with leaders to examine workflows within EHR to meet organization needs.
- Generates, designs, and implements new forms and reports, as needed.
- Attends EHR training to stay up to date on EHR features, new releases, and products. Shares opportunities, efficiencies, and best practices with leadership. Serves as lead on EHR projects.
- Able to travel to all practice locations for training purposes, including overnight travel, and can work outside of standard business hours, where needed.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Experience and Qualifications Required
- Two (2) years working with large Electronic Health Records system, eClinical Works preferred (including executable and cloud versions with multiple modules such as EMR, PM, Healow)
- Demonstrated experience in training users, including physicians
- Prior experience in medical office setting, including knowledge of physician office workflow, preferred
- Technical project management and support of applications, preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including Excel, Word.
- Strong knowledge of HIPAA rules and regulations.
- High school diploma or GED required, college coursework a plus
