Maintenance Supervisor Job Description
Responsibilities
- Supervise the operation and maintenance of plant equipment to maximize productivity.
- Maintain plant equipment and keep accurate records of PM, PdM and repairs.
- Develop and maintain spare parts inventory to minimize cost and downtime.
- Must be able to work flexible hours including weekend work as required.
- Manage on-site contractors through orientation and safety training.
- Actively participate in the plant safety program
- Assist the plant manager in all aspects of day-to-day operation of the plant.
- Actively participate in the plant quality program
Daily Accountabilities
· 40% - Maintain plant equipment to reduce downtime and maximize productivity. Keep online maintenance records that detail all maintenance and repair of plant equipment. Plan and implement major maintenance projects.
· 20% - People and safety leadership. Must be a safety champion both professionally and personally. Must have the maturity and discipline to respectfully and actively lead and improve safety and production policies and procedures.
· 10% - Assist the Plant Manager in day-to-day activities such as record keeping, scheduling of working hours, opening, or closing of the plant, maintenance of the ISO quality program and enforcement of location, business unit and corporate policies.
· 10% - Fully support and assist in the maintenance of our safety program. Be familiar and assist the plant in compliance of all OSHA, Friedman EHS and location safety regulations and rules.
· 20% - Maintain a spare parts inventory to minimize cost and down time. Maintain a positive business relationship with suppliers of equipment, parts, and service.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 2-year supervisory experience
- . Minimum of 3 years’ experience in one or more of the following: Electrical, Mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic equipment troubleshooting, repair and maintenance
- Experience with computers, including familiarity with MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint or equivalent.
- Effective interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written
- Demonstrated effective plant workforce management and motivation to achieve Safety, Quality, and efficiency requirements.
- General knowledge of Safety and Environmental policies and procedures while holding others in compliance.
· Demonstrated ability to engage employees to create and maintain a cohesive team environment.
- The ability to work in challenging environments such as: high noise areas, dusty, greasy, oily, hot, or cold and heights up to 45 feet.
- Decision making and critical thinking skills.
· Must be able to work flexible hours.
- A valid State driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications
· Technical school or bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or the equivalent
· Experience with electrical equipment such as PLC’s, drives, motors, and control circuits.
· Five or more years of supervisory experience in plant operations environment
· Experience in steel service center cut-to-length operations or similar industry.
· Basic operating knowledge of ISO steel quality systems
