Primary Purpose:
Under general supervision, provide a safe and secure learning environment through proper care and maintenance of athletic areas, play areas and grounds throughout the district.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education/Certification:
· High School Diploma/GED preferred
· Valid Texas Driver’s License.
· Valid Class A CDL preferred
· Driving record that meets the requirements of the district’s insurance carrier.
· Minimum of three years of experience in grounds maintenance and care.
Special Knowledge/Skills/Experience:
· Knowledge in operation of grounds maintenance equipment such as backhoe, grader, front end loader, forklift, and mowers
· Knowledge of fertilization, seeding, aeration and top-dressing methods
· Knowledge in the use of tools required to install and maintain playground and athletic structures
· Strong organizational and communication skills
· Possess a positive attitude
Major Responsibilities and Duties
· Maintenance and care of athletic fields
· Maintenance and care of school grounds
· Performs inspections of playground equipment, minor equipment repairs, and fibar replenishment
· Perform repairs of fences and gates
· Perform sidewalk and parking lot maintenance
· Perform grading and drainage work
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
· Use of mowers, tractors, weed-eaters, blowers, edgers, chippers, chainsaws, other grounds related equipment, hand-tools, district vehicles/trailers, backhoe/excavators, and safety equipment
· Frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stopping, pushing/pulling, and twisting, and standing; occasional sitting
· Frequent reaching and walking; occasional climbing
· Frequent lifting and carrying (50 pounds and over).
· Mostly work outside on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and fumes, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around gas lines; work around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel
· Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions; may work prolonged or irregular hours
OTHER: All employees are to follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
