Summary
The General Manager is responsible for delivering revenues and profits by managing daily operations of Mary’s Market in Roscoe, IL and providing an appealing environment with friendly customer service and ensuring guest satisfaction with their dining experience. Communicates continuously amongst all employees making sure policies, procedures, training, customer service, and general store maintenance is upheld. In charge of hiring, firing, basic HR concerns, promoting and disciplining employees. Serve as a liaison to promote Mary’s Market vision by continuously providing leadership and direction for the entire Mary’s Market team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Provide ongoing training for all staff including 1st assistants, service staff, bussers, shift managers and counter staff. Ongoing training requires minimum of one meeting per month to enhance selling techniques & improve standard operating procedures.
Establish performance expectations and conduct performance reviews biannually.
Conduct monthly sales incentives for the staff to promote sales
Set operating goals and objectives annually due January 1st of every year
Organize and monitor staff schedules
Responsible for ensuring appropriate Food handling policies are in place – Winnebago County Health Department
Responsible for making sure alcohol policies and procedures are followed and that all staff is trained. Also, makes sure all records and licenses are up to date to ensure Mary’s Market is in compliance with the law
Deliver accurate and consistent in-house invoicing and accounting reporting. These are to be completed in a timely and consistent fashion. This includes weekly sales reports, invoicing, and daily deposit spread sheets. Ensure daily bank deposits are accurate and made on time
Control expenses such as payroll, food costs, maintenance, capital expenditures, and utilities when possible
Supervise portion control and quantities of food and beverage preparation to minimize waste and ensure that all food and beverage items are paid for or accounted for according to the Mary’s Market handbook. Document and take corrective action for any misconduct
Ensure positive guest experience in all areas. This is handled in such a way that maximizes damage control and creates opportunity to retain future business by exceeding the customer’s expectations through the process
Ensure a safe working and guest environment to reduce the risk of injury and accidents. Complete accident reports promptly in the event that a guest or employee is injured
Ensure that proper security procedures are in place to protect employees, guests and company assets
Keep Director of Cafe Operations promptly and fully informed of all issues (i.e. problems, unusual matters of significance and positive events) and takes prompt corrective action where necessary or suggests alternative courses of action
Maintain a favorable working relationship with all company employees to foster and promote a cooperative and harmonious working climate which will be conducive to maximize employee morale, productivity and efficiency/effectiveness
Manage the maintenance and upkeep of store. This includes daily, weekly and monthly cleaning projects and maintaining a system of preventative maintenance to help control long run costs of expensive equipment repairs. In the event of a needed repair, contact an approved vendor to come in a timely fashion
Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or requested
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
