Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Orthodontic Assistant to join our dynamic team in a thriving orthodontic practice in Maplewood, NJ. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for patient care, excellent communication skills, and a strong background in orthodontics. While experience in pediatric dentistry and orthodontics is advantageous, it is not mandatory.
Duties:
- Assist the orthodontist during examinations and treatments, ensuring smooth and efficient procedures.
- Record detailed treatment information in patient charts, including planned treatments and necessary chair time.
- Provide exceptional customer service by escorting patients to treatment rooms, preparing them for procedures, and addressing their comfort needs.
- Take radiographs as directed by the orthodontist.
- Prepare treatment rooms by setting up equipment, sterilizing instruments, and maintaining cleanliness.
- Maintain sterilization equipment and solutions to ensure a safe and hygienic environment.
- Review patients' medical histories and treatment plans with each visit.
- Conduct intra-oral photos and digital scans for diagnostic purposes.
- Monitor incoming and outgoing lab cases and manage supply orders.
Experience:
Required Skills:
- Proficiency in dental assisting techniques.
- Familiarity with dental coding, dental terminology, and dental imaging.
- Knowledge of Ortho 2 Edge or similar practice management software.
- Ability to maintain accurate medical records.
- Understanding of medical terminology and procedures.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Experience in orthodontics.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations and infection control protocols.
Education / Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a dental or orthodontic setting is preferred.
Special Requirements/Certifications/Licenses:
- Valid X-ray certification preferred
- CPR/BLS certification.
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 25lbs. and move equipment as needed.
- Hand-eye coordination for precise tasks.
- Mobility for various physical activities throughout the day.
- Visual acuity for detailed work with instruments.
- Hearing ability for effective communication with patients and colleagues.
