GENERAL SUMMARY:
This is a highly technical position in an analytical lab-testing environment. The Sr. Lab Tech will be responsible for completing assay analyses of all of our production materials; accurately and in a timely fashion with a high degree of repeatability.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Correlate daily sample requirements with supervisor and melt-room operator.
· Record lot numbers, dates, times, sample information, etc.
· Ability to read, write and communicate effectively.
· Math and chemistry skills at a high school or university level.
· Able to set priorities and meet deadlines, ability to multitask.
· Good computer skills.
· Visually check sample condition for contamination, appearance, and for any irregularities.
· Determine which elements are required for analysis and which method of analysis to perform.
· Perform calibration check of balance; weigh samples.
· Analyze samples, utilizing accepted lab procedures including known standards and in-house QC check samples.
· Report timely and accurate assay results to Manufacturing Manager and management.
· Perform troubleshooting and maintenance of analytical equipment. Troubleshoot analysis techniques and report findings.
· Calculate concentration of each required element and convert to standard reporting. Report results to Manufacturing Manager, melt-room operator or spreadsheets as required.
· Keep lab reports and supplies current.
· Review bar list of incoming silver and gold material, determine sample plans for material and sample shipments.
· Must be able to work weekends, rotating schedules and overtime as needed.
· Ability to effectively lead a team.
· Assist in the evaluation and improvement of existing analytical methods.
· Standardize and calibrate instruments and solutions used in analysis.
· Perform drift correction and response curve adjustments of OES Instruments.
· All other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
· Must be able to collect data and prepare written reports using precise calculating, and reporting of results.
· Must be able to work safely and stay focused at all times.
· Must be familiar with acids, bases, and all lab chemicals.
· PC skills including word processing, spreadsheets and database software.
· Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment.
· Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Must also be able to work in a team environment and in problem-solving groups as needed.
· Must be able to properly communicate and get along with co-workers, other departments and supervisors.
· Strong organizational skills and the ability to pay close attention to detail.
· Must maintain good personal hygiene in the interest of protecting the metals.
· Must be able to use drill press and lathe to prepare samples.
· Develop a good working knowledge of basic chemistry, including titration methods, atomic absorption theory, and wet chemistry to include gravimetric determination technique.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· Bachelors degree in Chemistry or related field preferred.
· 2-4 years experience in a laboratory setting.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment is of moderate temperature and moderately loud noise level; hearing protection is required while working on the manufacturing floor. Gloves must be worn and changed frequently and continuously throughout the day while working with products.
