The Hansen Elementary School is seeking an exceptional and dynamic candidate to serve as a Special Educator for our Substantially Separate ACCESS Program for the upcoming school year beginning August 26, 2024. The Hansen Elementary School is an inclusive community for all students and staff and serves over 530 students in grades K-5. The Special Educator will join a vibrant and supportive ACCESS team that places a high priority on collaboration, creativity, flexibility, and commitment to the goals of the District and to our students, families and staff. As a special educator in the substantially separate ACCESS program, you will work closely and collaboratively with a team of providers including a BCBA, ABA Tutors, SLP and SLPA, OT, PT, AAC Consultant, TVI, School Psychologist, and School Adjustment Counselor.
The ACCESS Program (All Children Can Expand Skill Sets)is designed for students who have been determined by the Team as meeting the eligibility criteria of Autism Spectrum Disorder, Developmental Disability, and/or Intellectual Impairment. In addition students in this program exhibit significant impairment in some or all of the following areas: verbal communication, social interaction and pragmatic skills, comprehension, behavioral and emotional regulation, adaptive daily living skills, and/or the ability to acquire new skills.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):
1. Provide individual and small group instruction to elementary school students with significant cognitive, communication, motor and academic impairments who require specialized instruction outside of the general education classroom.
2. Utilize ABA methodologies to support students on the Autism Spectrum.
3. Implement behavior intervention programs as outline by district BCBA
4. Develop/modify curriculum and lessons that align to DESE Standards using access and entry points as needed.
5. Develop activities to support social, communication, and daily living skills within the classroom.
5. Collaborate with classroom ABA Tutors and paraprofessionals to develop schedules and responsibilities to meet the individual needs of students.
6. Collaborate with staff to foster successful and meaningful inclusion opportunities for students as deemed appropriate.
7. Write and maintain Individualized Education Plans including data for progress reports
8. Collect consistent behavior and academic data on student performance to drive instruction and monitor student progress
9. Complete MCAS Alt Assessment portfolios as needed
10. Communicate consistently and effectively with students, families, program staff (paraprofessionals, OT, SLP, school psychologists etc.), and administration
11. Manage resources, meet deadlines, follow through on commitments
12. Use clear verbal and written communication and active listening skills
13. Develop and maintain rapport and effective relationships with young children and adults contacted in carrying out duties and responsibilities by using courtesy, diplomacy, collaboration, cooperation and professional conduct
14. Contribute to the goals and success of all teams and team members through collaboration, cooperation, and flexibility in team discussions, activities, and decision-making
15. Maintain high ethical standards, legal responsibility, and confidentiality
16. Implement the school district's strategic plan and individual school improvement plans
17. Maintains accurate and complete, student records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation
18. Follows individual student safety plans, IEPs, 504s, health care plans, etc.
19. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, maintaining order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
20. Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms
21. Strives to participate in professional development opportunities to remain current in the educational field
22. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required
23. Performs other related tasks and assumes other related responsibilities as may from time to time as assigned by the Principal and/or Program Manager
Qualifications
1.Education: Hold a Masters degree
2. Hold a Massachusetts Teaching License in Moderate or Severe Disabilities and hold an SEI endorsement
3. Highly Qualified as per Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)
4. Experience working with children who have moderate to severe disabilities
5. Candidates are subject to background checks including, CORI clearance, and fingerprinting
6. Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.
