Position Description:
Mass Properties Engineer You will deliver World Class Vehicle Mass Properties and Energy Management solutions for new global vehicle programs.
From within Vehicle Engineering Energy Management, you will collaborate with Vehicle Architecture, Program Teams, Commodity D&R, Marketing, Finance, Corp. Communications and Manufacturing to deliver sophisticated global car and truck programs showcasing your knowledge, skills and leadership during all phases of our new global car and truck programs. Mass Properties leads the development and delivery of global platforms and vehicle mass strategies to optimize customer attributes and Fuel Economy/Emission/Safety certifications simultaneously in multiple markets.
Responsibilities:
Advance the Mass Strategy through the application of systems engineering principles in collaboration with functional teams
Create and manage the Mass and Load Capabilities Strategy
Perform Mass Property Predictions
Determine the mass distribution and inertia characteristics that are primary inputs for all subsequent modeling and analysis, including Structural, NVH, Ride and Handling, Crash and Rollover Safety
Provide mass calculations for Vehicles Loads and ground reactions in various loading conditions
Skills Required:
Functional understanding of powertrain, chassis, body structure and electrical systems
Understanding of vehicle architecture, standard vehicle materials properties (e.g. steels, aluminum, plastics, etc.) and assembly plant end of line processes
Knowledge of applied systems engineering, interface management, multi-attribute optimization
Background in applied statistics or Six Sigma subject areas, experience in Minitab
Experience Required:
1+ year of experience in the ground transportation and/or aerospace industry in an engineering/analytical capacity (coursework/internship/co-op experience allowed)
Education Required:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or Computer Science
