Job Description:
Performs a variety of duties in and around building and grounds of the hospital complex to assist mechanics and other workmen in completing their tasks. Makes specific rounds, and takes necessary corrective action. Performs assigned tasks independently on evening, night and weekend shifts. With experience, performs progressively more complex tasks including participating in the on-call schedule. Consults with the Manager and or VP of Support Services or Mechanic when in doubt of corrective measures to be taken. Performs other duties as assigned.
Special Skills/ Educational Requirements:
General maintenance work and union trades mechanic (burner/boiler mechanic, electrician, HVAC-R) experience mandatory. General Painting (3 years). HVAC/Electrician/Refrigeration experience preferred.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates of Applied Science degree, trade or vocational school diploma preferred. Clean and valid NYS driver's license required.
Completes hazard surveillance rounds/paperwork/ repairs to machinery, daily or as outlined in department policy and procedures.
Keeps mechanical rooms, grounds, shop, etc. clean/safe.
While on duty takes calls and meets needs of hospital personnel.
Transport goods and staff during events and/or inclement weather.
Safe use of equipment i.e drills, saws, mowers, trimmers etc.
Applies paint, varnish, etc. to protect and repair interior and exterior surfaces.
Completes preventative maintenance work by the twenty-fifth day of each month or as directed.
Adapts to changing workloads, schedules, assignments to meet the needs of the hospital.
Participates in Safety Training programs.
Works with other staff members in an effort to increase knowledge and skills needed to maintain a safe well-run facility.
Shows ability to obtain information needed to make a decision.
Physical Demands:
May be met with the aid of mechanical devices. They are those minimally necessary for the safe completion of duties. They are not intended to discriminate against handicapped persons, only to ensure safety working conditions for all persons. Mechanical assistance devices may not be such that they interfere with normal safety aids (modified if necessary) such as safety goggles, hearing protection, etc. Good vision. Good hearing. Full mobile on steps, ladders, etc. Sufficient mobility and dexterity of both arms, (or mechanical substitutes) to safely operate hand and power tools, gauges, valves, etc.
