The Animal Clinic of North Clarksville are currently looking for Veterinary Assistants who are ready to be part of a team-oriented environment, someone who has previous animal clinic/hospital experience (but not required), good communication skills and a friendly, outgoing personality.
Veterinary Assistants support and add value to the foundation of an efficient medical practice and are the primary support of our doctors. The job duties of a Veterinary Assistant require having practical knowledge of our hospital procedures, policies and services; patient treatment protocols; hospital computer systems; and the standard procedures, and terminology used in a veterinary clinic setting. They assist in pet restraint, lab work, procedures, surgery, patient care, and triage/discharge of patients. They help deliver quality care for all patients and provide exceptional service.
Job duties and Responsibilities:
- Call patients and clients back to triage and gather brief medical histories
- Perform temperature and weight checks
- Prep and assist in diagnostics, medical and surgical procedures
- Perform laboratory tests and help assist performing digital radiographs
- Operate and maintain hospital equipment
- Help monitor patients under anesthesia under the direction and supervision of the veterinarian
- Communicate with clients/owners about the status of the patients, as directed by the veterinarian
- Fill prescriptions/administer medications, including proper documentation, logging, and security of controlled drugs.
- Maintain cleanliness of exam rooms (after each patient), hospital grounds, and treatment areas, as needed
- Clean cages/kennels as needed
- Maintain laundry for the clinic
- Communicate patient status with oncoming staff and veterinarians, and update records and information in computer, as needed.
- Display confidence and reassurance when dealing with pets experiencing severe stress, illness, and/or pain
- Be able to deal with difficult and/ or aggressive patients in an effective manner meanwhile keeping yourself, the pet, and your co-workers safe.
- Communicate and approach job duties in a mature manner
- Able to display teamwork approach and work well with all levels of clinic team members
- Support the team in welcoming new employees and assist in the training process when needed
