GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
Seasonal Position that will not exceed six months. While receiving on-the-job training, perform light to heavy physical labor using a variety of hand and power tools and light equipment to facilitate the construction and maintenance of all facets of County roads and bridges, other rights-of-way within the County.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Manual Labor:
- Uses hand tools to dig ditches, shovel fill or patching materials, load and unload equipment from trucks, carry or move equipment by hand, and clean the shop, yard or work site of trash and/or debris.
- Installs and maintains road signs, reflectors, cattle guards, fences and guard rails using post driver, shovel, posthole digger and other hand and mechanical tools.
- Scrapes and paints outdoor equipment, posts, fences, etc. using hand paint brush or power painter/sprayer, as appropriate. Replaces and maintains metal or wood deck surfaces and guard rails on bridges using hand or mechanical tools.
- Patches potholes with asphalt and pours and spreads tar to seal cracks in asphalt.
- Mows grass and weeds along roadbeds using a tractor mower or heavy-duty power mower. Operates chainsaw to cut brush or fallen timber for removal from rights-of-way.
- May operate weed control equipment and machinery.
- Keeps tools, vehicles and equipment clean and in safe operating order, and follows all procedures for safe and efficient operation of tools, vehicles, and equipment.
- Observes safety precautions and wears appropriate safety equipment at all times.
- Reviews all work products to ensure highest level of quality.
- Drives vehicle to perform one or more essential functions.
- Performs other duties of a similar or related level as necessary or assigned.
Snow Removal:
- Performs snow removal duties, including shoveling and other winter maintenance on sidewalks and roadways to ensure roadways remain open.
Safety:
- Safely operates equipment and vehicles, observes safety precautions, and wears appropriate safety equipment.
