Overview:
The Special Education Teacher must develop positive relationships with all students, staff, and families in order to provide our special education department with the collaboration and professionalism needed to support an excellent special education department. The Special Education Teacher will report directly to the Special Education Coordinator.
Performance and Responsibilities:
- Maintain knowledge of current Special Education regulations and best practices. Develop IEPs in accordance with federal, state and district standards. Create and maintain Special Education documentation as required by federal, state and district regulations.
- Manage IEPs in district’s SIRAS program.
- Ensure IEP timeline compliance of assigned caseload.
- Develop positive relationships with parents and families in order to engage them in the IEP process and keep them apprised of student progress. Assist with the development of 504 plans.
- Collaborate with service providers to ensure the full continuum of services. Identify groups of learners with specific targeted learning needs. Work closely with administration and teachers to ensure implementation of curriculum and instruction to meet all IEP goals.
Qualifications and Desired Characteristics:
- An appropriate valid California Special Education Teaching Credential Successful classroom experience
- Knowledge of SIRAS preferred but not required
- Excellent organizational, planning, and implementation skills
- Excellent written, communication and presentation skills
- Detail-oriented team player willing to roll up sleeves and get the job done Maintain accurate records for reporting purposes
- Uphold the highest ethical standards and commitment to the school’s mission
- Spanish-speaking preferred but not required
Tentative Schedule: M-F 7:30 PM-4 PM (4:30 PM on select days),
some evening events
Number of Hours: 40 hours a week
