Looking for a PACU nurse to be able to assist the providers during in-office procedures and procedures in our brand-new surgical center.
PACU Nurse - PER DIEM
Duties and responsibilities of the PACU Advanced Practice Provider or PACU nurse include but are not limited to:
1) Assist patient to the recovery room and receive and communicate updated reports from the OR department.
2) Continue to monitor and document patient vital signs as appropriate and report any deviations to the surgeon or anesthesia provider.
3) Administer oxygen when indicated as ordered. The patient should be stable with adequate respiratory function before oxygen is discontinued.
4) Administer any medications as needed and ordered.
5) Assess the patient’s level of pain and administer analgesics as ordered by the anesthesiologist and/or surgeon. Reassess and document patient’s level of pain prior to discharge.
6) Offer liquids when able. The patient should be able to tolerate ice chips or PO fluids.
7) Assess and document the level of consciousness, should be at the pre-procedure level.
8) Muscular strength should be at full sensation in legs and feet; patient should be able to bend knees as applicable and raise legs as applicable.
9) Bring the patient’s family member or caregiver to recovery room when able.
10) Discontinue IV when tolerating fluids adequately and has voided, if applicable.
11) The surgeon will see the patient in the PACU, will indicate when the patient is ready to be discharged, and document any additional discharge orders.
12) Review all postoperative written discharge orders and instructions with the patient and the responsible accompanying adult.
13) Instruct the responsible adult accompanying patient to bring car to patient's discharge area.
14) Assist patient to the discharge area via ambulatory or wheelchair as appropriate and assist patient into the car.
15) Assure that patient takes all personal belongings and post-op instructions with them when they are discharged.
Must be good with people and able to follow directions.
