Starting $73,139
Monitors and controls propulsion power to ensure all rapid lines have proper power. Receives and distributes trouble calls for Power work units (Line, Signals, Track, and Substations), Utility Company, and Facilities Maintenance Department, and other RTA departments. Leads all central communication efforts. Manages the Department’s customer-focused activities. Practices safety precautions and measures at all times. Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required.
A Public Transportation Central Communication Specialist plays a crucial role in managing and disseminating information for a public transportation system. Their responsibilities typically include coordinating communication strategies, managing media relations, and ensuring clear and effective communication with the public and other stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will have key responsibilities in:
Develop and implement communication plans to ensure consistent and clear messaging.
Coordinate with various departments to align communication strategies.
Act quickly and effectively during emergencies to communicate with the public and media.
Provide accurate and timely information to mitigate the impact of crises.
Engage with community groups, governmental agencies, and other stakeholders.
Foster positive relationships with stakeholders to build support for public transportation initiatives.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey messages.
Ability to handle communication during emergencies calmly and effectively.
Familiarity with communication tools and platforms, including social media, websites, and content management systems.
Ability to analyze and interpret data to improve communication strategies.
Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
Ability to build and maintain relationships with various stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements
Applicant must have a high school diploma or its GED equivalent. Must have demonstrated knowledge of electrical theory. Must have a minimum of three (3) years experience or training in one of the following: Rail Communications, Power Control or Journeyman Apprenticeship, or has the necessary education and experience in a related field or industry.
Other Duties: Required to develop and maintain effective working relationships with Authority personnel and outside agencies. Required to possess a combination of education and experience relating to this position. Must possess knowledge of the Electrical Systems. Must have knowledge of the operating of the substations and be familiar with various types of circuits comprising the DC distribution system. Must know how to read and interpret blueprints and circuitry diagrams. Must have knowledge of remote electrical control devices. Required to analyze and exercise sound judgment in maintaining and restoring service. Must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to competently operate personal computer systems to develop and maintain business applications using standard software, such as Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, internet applications and searches, email correspondence, etc. Must be able to write and express oneself in a clear, logical and comprehensive manner. Must possess communication skills suitable for providing clear and concise radio communication and public address announcements. Must possess skills to perform and present data analyses and performance reports.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand for prolonged periods. The employee is frequently required to bend, stoop, climb, reach with hands and arms, handle or feel, see with normal visual acuity, talk, speak and hear. The employee is occasionally required to lift materials up to 50 lbs. The employee is regularly required to monitor a video display terminal.
Mental Demands
Reading, watching, studying, observing, focused listening. Concentrated attention to detail for prolonged periods. Auditing, inspecting, tabulating data, proofreading, analyzing and evaluating.
