REPORTS TO: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF STUDENT SERVICES
SALARY: RANGE 20
WORK YEAR: 10 MONTHS

GENERAL SCOPE
Under direction of the School Nurse and general supervision of the Executive Director of Student Services or designee, performs a variety of clerical and supportive tasks for the School Nurse and related work as assigned, as well as provides direct clinical care for students. This is an itinerant position requiring the employee to maintain confidentiality and accompany the school nurse and/or to work independently at all school sites in the District to complete assigned tasks.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
● Travels to various school sites and performs a wide variety of nursing duties; assesses illnesses and injuries and applies first aid as needed; assesses and assists students with seizures; checks for head lice, skin abnormalities and other conditions; obtains vital signs.
● Performs specialized health care services for students per state laws and District procedures, including suctioning, blood glucose testing, medication administration, catheterizations, drip and tube feeding administration, and other specialized nursing services; operates specialized medical equipment and instruments in the assessment and treatment of individuals.
● Performs student health assessments; maintains student health records in a confidential manner; reviews and updates student records for proper vaccinations and immunizations, as needed; prepares and distributes compliance notifications and communication as needed until records of vaccination and immunization and California Department of Public Health (CDPH) are provided by parents.
● Implements, monitors, and provides feedback on student health plans. Prepares and distributes parent authorization forms; enters student health data into computerized tracking systems; completes nursing reports and student health logs; orders and distributes health education materials and health care supplies as directed.
● Performs a variety of routine clerical duties, including creating reports, correspondence, notices and referrals, and completes forms as needed; contacts parents and agencies as directed by the School
Nurse and/or the Student Services Director or designee.
● Prepares and maintains records, reports, doctor orders and parental consents related to assigned activities; maintains student health files, vaccination and immunization records as-needed.
● Maintains certifications and attends training to maintain current knowledge of medical laws, rules, regulations and best practices in the field of medicine.
● Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, LICENSES, CERTIFICATION AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
● Any combination equivalent to graduation from an accredited Vocational Nurses Training program and one year related experience
● Possess a High School Diploma; A.A. or B.A./B.S. Bachelor's degree is desirable
● Current valid California State license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse
● Valid First Aid and CPR Certification
● The ability to travel between school sites within a reasonable amount of time
EXPERIENCE
● Any combination of training, education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties.
● Prior experience working in a school setting, children’s program, or medical setting is preferred.
