We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Therapist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, providing, and evaluating psychotherapy services to patients and families, functioning as an effective team member, and actively promoting a therapeutic milieu.
Reporting Relationships:
This position reports directly to the Executive Director and the Therapy Team.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
May supervise volunteers, practicum students, or interns.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop individualized treatment plans that incorporate studio art therapy, counseling, or psychotherapy techniques.
- Gather client information from sources such as case documentation, client observation, or interviews with clients or family members.
- Write treatment plans, case summaries, or other reports related to individual clients or client groups.
- Confer with other professionals on the client's treatment team to develop, coordinate, or integrate treatment plans.
- Design or customize art therapy sessions or programs in consultation with clients to meet their goals and objectives.
- Provide guided self-expression experiences to help clients recover from or cope with cognitive, emotional, or physical impairments.
- Assess client needs or disorders using drawing, painting, sculpting, or other artistic processes.
- Select or prepare artistic media or related equipment to accomplish therapy session objectives.
- Observe and document client reactions, progress, or other outcomes related to the artistic process.
- Utilize an approach that integrates assessment, goal setting, intervention, and evaluation/revision of plans.
- Clearly and concisely communicate student status.
- Understand and apply behavior management techniques for individuals and groups in a manner consistent with the mission and philosophy of the school, including techniques which:
- Promote emotional well-being and treat students with dignity and respect;
- Utilize least restrictive alternatives whenever possible;
- Use diverse approaches based on the student’s needs;
- Determine natural and logical consequences for student behaviors;
- Provide positive feedback and support; and
- Demonstrate skill and leadership in crisis intervention and management of student behavior.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the developmental needs of children, adolescents, and their families.
- Modify counseling systems, theories, techniques, and interventions to make them culturally appropriate for diverse populations.
- Advocate for policies, programs, and services that are equitable and responsive to the unique needs of clients.
- Provide weekly individual and group art therapy services to students.
- Maintain good standing in their discipline, participate in continuing education and quality improvement activities, and review research or literature in art therapy, psychology, or related disciplines. Conduct information-sharing sessions such as in-service workshops for other professionals, potential client groups, or the general community.
- Actively participate as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team in developing student and family goals, evaluating progress, and facilitating effective teamwork among staff.
- Uphold the teamwork contract.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

- Respecting privacy by refraining from discussing specific student cases outside designated meetings.

Qualifications:
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent skills related to social perceptiveness and active listening.
- Excellent critical thinking, judgment, and decision-making skills.
- Strong knowledge of psychology, therapy, and counseling.
- Familiarity with fine arts and artistic techniques.
Education and Experience:
Master's degree in Art Therapy or related discipline (required) or doctoral degree (preferred). Graduate credits must be from an accredited school in a mental health-related discipline, current licensure/licensure eligible, and/or certification (in accordance with requirements of individual disciplines) in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
One year of related experience is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- May be required to stand for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $45.00 - $95.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10 – 20 per week
