JOB TITLE: Custodian/General MaintenanceREPORTS TO: PrincipalFLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt (Hourly)SALARY: $15.50- $19.90SCHEDULE: 8AM-4:30 ONCALENDAR DAYS: 215 POSITION SUMMARY: The custodian/general maintenance position will clean and maintain school facilities using routine procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds.QUALIFICATIONS: -High school diploma or equivalent.-Clear and Valid drivers licenseMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: -Assist with repair and maintenance of school facilities, including repairing woodwork, replacing electrical switches, fixtures, and motors; painting, repairing and replacing plumbing fixtures and drainage systems; and replacing broken glass.-Perform all required painting for school buildings for interior and exterior.-Maintain a cleaning schedule that will include cleaning of floors, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms-Keep school building and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas, neat and clean.-Detect and report needed major repairs on building structures and their systems including furniture and equipment-Comply with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash.-Assist in maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and request additional supplies as needed.-Assist with lunchroom set up and take down, including arranging tables and chairs and wiping down tables.-Perform preventive maintenance to ensure the comfort, health, and safety of students and staff.-Make minor building repairs as needed and report major repair needs to principal.-Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide appropriate temperatures and ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.-Move furniture or equipment within building as directed by principal.-Assisting with setting up of facilities for special events after hours such as parent nights and adjusting work hours as necessary.-Assist with opening and closing building each school day, checking to ensure that all exit doors are working property during hours of building occupancy.-Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities.-Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.-Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, and climbing.-Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.-Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.-Inspects grounds and equipment (e.g. playground equipment, fences, irrigation systems, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring safety and identifying necessary repairs and providing preventative maintenance.-Assist principal with local and state safety requirements such as annual fire alarm and extinguisher inspections-Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an effective and efficient work environment.-The foregoing statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job and are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills requiredKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: -Knowledge of cleaning methods and procedures-Knowledge of basic construction and routine maintenance and repair procedures-Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in carpentry-Skill in operating hand tools or simple machinery-Skill in performing manual labor under varying working conditions-Ability to follow verbal and written instructions-Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)-Ability to operate computer system i.e. check and respond to emails, time and attendance software-Ability to work independently-Ability to respond after hours when needed-Ability to work well and in a positive manner with staff, students, and publicMENTAL/PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS: -Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting-Equipment; buffer, stripper, Wet/dry vacuum cleaner, hand tools, shampooer-Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, reaching, and overhead reaching-Possible heavy lifting and carrying up to 45 lbs.-Work inside and outside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materialsBENEFITS: Should you enroll in medical plan, Orenda Education makes a $425 monthly contribution towards employees' premiums.Participation in the Texas Teachers Retirement SystemTelehealthBasic Life, Term Life, Permanent Life and Accident InsuranceShort-term and Long-term Disability403b and 457b Investment PlansHealth Savings and Flexible Spending Account OptionsCritical Illness, Cancer InsuranceLegal Services
