Director of Spatial Resources Management is a strategic and collaborative leader to serve in the newly created role in the Office of Planning & Design (P&D) to lead a comprehensive effort to manage and quantify space planning, audit, allocation, standards and utilization.
The allocation, management, and use of space on the 169-acre Danforth, North and West Campuses and other university owned and leased spaces is a complex topic that touches all aspects of the university. Over the last two decades, 2.8M GSF of the Danforth Campus proper’s 6.5M GSF of program space was built. This is a 75% increase compared to the total space added over the previous 100 years, and there are very limited opportunities for future expansion onto contiguous real estate.
The University’s current systems offer many opportunities for significant process improvement and organizational efficiencies for space planning implementation in the future. The effort led by the Director of Spatial Resources Management will result in strategic and tactical space allocation and utilization at the university-wide level in the future, incorporating the impact of hybrid and remote work on space standards.
The position is responsible for the collection, management and auditing of campus space information and will create meaningful reports and graphics about the use of space on campus, including benchmarking against peer institutions.
The Director of Spatial Resources must distill complex ideas into concise presentation materials and prepare academic and research spatial allocation queries showing options and tradeoffs to enhance leadership decision making and strategic planning.
The Director of Spatial Resources Management will coordinate closely with Facilities Planning & Management, Financial Services, Provost’s Office, Registrar, Human Resources, Libraries (Data Services/GIS), Data Governance Department, schools and other CFU units, and collaborate with P&D Planners on projects and planning initiatives.
