We are seeking a Full-time Optometrist to join our dedicated team.

REPORTS TO: Optometry Director
HOURS: 40 hours per week

For over 50 years, Valley Community Healthcare has been one of Los Angeles’ leading community-based health centers, providing primary care and promoting community wellness and prevention programs. Located in the San Fernando Valley, Valley Community Healthcare has two sites and 30+ providers. We are an NCQA certified-level 3 Patient Centered Medical Home for over 25,000 unique patients and provided over 100,000 medical visits last year. We are looking to grow and integrate our core programs - primary care, pediatrics, adolescent teen clinic, women’s health, dental, optometry, and behavioral health, through a care team approach, quality, and innovative care delivery models.
Ensure excellence in patient care by conducting eye exams, addressing issues of disease and/or injury, and educating patients regarding the eye care options. Treat patients with compassion and work collaboratively with the rest of staff to meet all patient needs.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
v Provides outpatient care for patients with eye related disorders and conditions for pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations.
v Provides complete documentation of exam in EHR including detailed medical histories, current medication, social history, family history, anterior and posterior evaluations of the eyes, dilates eyes when appropriate, orders and completes additional office procedures when appropriate, prescribes medication/glasses/contact lenses/vision aids/therapy, completes assessment and plan, patient education among others.
v Practices optometry to the full scope of licensure.
v Consults with other health care practitioners for co-management of eye diseases and systemic conditions.
v Abides by policies set in the department and clinic as a whole
v Complies with audit measures, meaningful use criterion, e-prescribing, etc.
v Educates patients on proper eye care including eye hygiene and safety factors.
v Has excellent customer service and organization skills.
v Has advanced time management skills.
v Participate in staff development and training.
v Refers patients to trusted specialist as needed. Follows-up on results of reports from specialists and documents interpretations in EHR.
v Has positive attitude and team-oriented approach to patient care.
v Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
v Is reliable with a strong work ethic and commitment to patient care.
v Is compassionate, practices cultural sensitivity, and has professional chair side manner.

v Has solid knowledge of both science and art of optometry. Maintain continued commitment to remaining up to date on the latest research and techniques
v Maintains licenses up to date including but not limited to CA license of optometry, DEA license, BLS, etc.
v Encourages optical sales by educating patients of available optical goods
v Works with assistant and office manager to ensure QI measures such as cycle time, missed opportunities, no show rate, third next available, etc. is reached on daily basis.
v Provides telephone consultation to patients when needed and documents phone conversations in EHR
v Ensures efficient flow of patients in and out of clinic, utilized time tracking system in EHR.
v Performs functions, duties, and services in compliance with regulatory agencies, cultural obligations and funding sources such as CHDP, Medi-Cal, HCLA, MHLA and Medicare.
v Monitors strict adherence to: Universal infection percussions established by the CDC, OSHA, DHS/OA, and clinic standards
v Communicates effectively with all levels of staff throughout the department and clinic
v Trouble shoots difficult problems and takes independent actions to solve them
v Through team work and accountability, exhibits behaviors and attitudes of courtesy and respect for all staff at the clinic in accordance with its mission values
v Establishes and maintains effective and positive working relationships with representatives of outside agencies, government entities, vendors, as well as other staff and volunteers. Represents the clinic site when appropriate
v Ensures patient confidentiality and demonstrates complete discretion when discussing patient information.
v Practices cost-effective medicine by implementing appropriate prescription in line with all drug formularies.
v Completes documentation of charts in a timely manner, ensuring accuracy and completeness, so that the clinic can collect funds for services.
v Works well under stressful conditions
v Available to work weekends and evenings
v Available to work at various clinic sites
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have graduated from an accredited school of optometry. Must have current California license of Optometry with TPA and TLG certification. Must have at least one year of full/part time experience working as an optometrist. Bilingual (Spanish/English) is required. Experience with electronic health record is highly preferred. Current California driver’s license or ID card. Experience working in a FQHC and or NCQA is preferred.
