SUPERVISION:
Non-Supervisory. May have oversight responsibilities of various work crews.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
- Facilities Maintenance Technician I: Performs entry-level to intermediate, standard level work and is the first in the Facilities Maintenance Technician job series.
- Facilities Maintenance Technician II: Performs full-performance, journey-level work and is the second in the Facilities Maintenance Technician job series. May act as a team lead.
GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
Maintains County facilities, grounds, and equipment. Performs and oversees work crews performing custodial and repair work including general maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical work. Operates construction and maintenance equipment. Schedules and performs preventive vehicle maintenance.

Facilities Maintenance Technician I:
- Represents the facility department and provides information, addresses complaints, and resolves problems.
- Observers work crews and perform basic construction functions such as cleaning, drywall, painting, repairing, electrical, flatwork, demolition, and carpentry construction and maintenance on County facilities.
- Observers work crews and perform landscape maintenance. Installs and maintains irrigation systems.
- Observes work crews and performs snow removal and other weather-related maintenance activities which include shoveling and operating snow removal equipment.
- Determines and recommends equipment needs for facilities; schedules, maintains, repairs, and services all equipment.
- Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on OHV vehicles and equipment.
- Observe laborers in the completion of community work projects and ensure the safety of the community and the laborers.
- Maintains county safety policies and procedures.
- May assign and oversee the work of volunteers, part-time or seasonal help.
- Demonstrate proficiency in correctly utilizing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) whenever required during tasks.
Facilities Maintenance Technician II:
- Performs all essential functions of the Facilities Maintenance Technician I.
- As Team Lead, assists Supervisor in prioritizing and scheduling work for day-to-day operations.
- May assist in training and be a support for Facilities Maintenance Technician I.
- Checks the work of FMT I for quality and thoroughness.
