Summary
Provides comprehensive nursing care to patients in assigned clinics. Serves as resource and leadership for other clinical duties and/or assignments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Approaches this position with a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
Demonstrates appropriate skills to assess and triage OB/GYN patients and communicate with provider for patient care.
Explains procedures and treatments to patients to gain cooperation and understanding.
Demonstrates critical thinking skills for new OB patient pregnancy intake assessments.
Prepares and demonstrates educational material for new OB patients.
Education and Intake for new OB Patients
Demonstrates and maintains current knowledge of medications and administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures and protocol.
Demonstrates knowledge of non-stress test assessment and appropriate nursing intervention in OB/GYN clinic.
Demonstrates effective communication and listening skills in person and over the phone.
Maintains adequate stock of medications and orders as needed.
Participates in the CPI program.
Participates in CPI program for continuous quality improvement and risk management purposes for by maintaining compliance, and utilizes the guidelines of all state and federal laws and regulations as they pertain to the position including, but not limited to, Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA), Scope of Practice, Accreditation Standards, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Bureau of Primary Health Care/ Health Resources and Services Administration (BPHC/HRSA), National Committee for Quality Assurance/Patient Centered Medical Home (NCQA-PCMH), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA). Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO)
Performs other duties as assigned.
Patient Centered Responsibilities
Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patient.
Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or Physician of patient’s condition and reaction to drugs, treatments and significant incidents.
Documents nursing history, complete OB history and physical assessments for assigned patients.
Takes temperature, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess condition of patient.
Provides excellent custom services by being attentive and respectful, utilizing the AIDET framework.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Assist Practice Manager with observational input in the day to day evaluation of performance by clinical staff including LVN’s, MA’s and CCMA’s. Carries out supervisory responsibility in accordance with the organizations’ policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include training employees, planning assigning and directing work. Support and alliance with in clinic with other Registered Nurses.

Education and/or Experience
Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in nursing required; prefer Bachelors of Science in Nursing. At least one year of nursing experience in clinical setting or hospital.
Minimum of 6 months, full-time nursing clinical experience in OB/GYN.
Strong interpersonal/communication, time management skills.
Able to communicate professionally and understandably in writing
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word Processing software, Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet software and Electronic Medical Record experience. Project management experience is a plus, EPIC experience preferred.
Equipment
Point of Care (POC) Testing with glucose meters, POC lab analyzers and blood pressure monitors, Point of Care (POC) Clinitek for Urine Pregnancy and Urine Analysis.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
RN License in the state of Texas required. Responsible to maintain license and obtain all professional CEU's in compliance with Licensure Boards and the City, State and Federal Regulations. Current BCLS Healthcare Card renewed every two years.
