We are seeking individuals who are up for the rewarding and invigorating work of a Teacher. The Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing early childhood education programs for children ages 2 to 4 years old.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Teacher directly reports to the Director. He/ she works in coordination with their co- teacher for the care, well being, nurturing and education of children ages 2 to 4 years. The Teacher is at least 18 years of age, has one-year teaching experience and/ or (6) Early Childhood Education [ECE] units and has the intention of enrolling in school to obtain further ECE units.
DUTIES WITH CHILDREN
- Responsible for providing supervision that supports a safe, fun and challenging learning environment. Communicates any safety concerns to the Director.
- Enforce all Licensing Regulations set forth in the Manual of Policies and Procedures, under Child Care Center, including, but not limited to, insuring that appropriate staff- child ratios are maintained at all times
- Maintains visual and auditory supervision of children at all times to ensure their safety.
- Implements an integrated curriculum guided by the children’s interests. Demonstrates an understanding that play contributes to child development and learning in all domains.
- Models a warm, nurturing, and respectful atmosphere for the children to learn and grow.
- Assists in collecting artifacts for documentation used for assessment planning.
- Engages in discussion with colleagues about the meaning of observation, screening, documentation and assessment data to support children’s learning and development.
- Helps provide an anti-biased, multicultural classroom.
- Assists children in keeping their faces clean and free of nasal fluids. Assists children in proper sanitation and personal hygiene. Assists with diaper changing and toilet-use.
- Accomplishes all instructional and logistical activities within the context of and under the direction of The Little School’s purpose, goals and philosophy.
- Observes children daily to detect signs of ill health and/ or abuse and reports any suspected child abuse to the Teacher, Director and/or CPS immediately
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, willingness to bend and kneel as well as lift children 30-50lbs. Shows appropriate affection and friendliness to children.
- Prepares the classroom for nap-time and help stow nap equipment after nap-time. Assists students who need help falling asleep.
FAMILY RELATIONS
- Greets children and families as they enter the classroom and helps the child transition to the school environment in a manner that is pleasing and comfortable for the child.
- Communicates in a positive, supportive and professional manner
- Maintains confidentiality of children, families, and the school.
STAFF RELATIONS
- Confers with co-teachers regarding observations, self-reflections, child assessments, lesson planning, safety, and parent communication.
- Establishes and maintains a positive relationship of cooperation, communication, and respect with the board of directors and colleagues.
- Actively participates in staff meeting discussions (once a month in the evening).
PROFESSIONAL EXPECTATIONS
- The Little School’s Preventive Safety Procedures and COVID-19 CDC guidelines.
- Attends training, staff development meetings/workshops and meetings as scheduled
- Works to increase skills and knowledge in early childhood education
QUALIFICATIONS
- Loves working with young children and is energetic and passionate about working one- on-one with children, as well as with groups of children.
- Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
- Minimum 12 ECE units in the core subjects (Child Development, 3 units; Child, Family, and Community, 3 units; ECE Curriculum, 3 units; ECE Principles and Practice, 3 units)- preferred.
- Three years preschool teaching experience – preferred
- Current Emergency First Aid and Child CPR certificate (or willing to obtain quickly)
- Current health screening with a negative T.B. test, LiveScan and Child Abuse Index
- Prior experience working in a licensed childcare facility - preferred.

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
