OVERVIEW:
The Infection Preventionist (IP) is the key person on the infection control team. he/she is responsible for the dissemination of infection prevention information, gathering surveillance data, and creating/enforcing facility policies and procedures related to infection prevention and control. he/she will possess a comprehensive skillset aimed at preventing, investigating, and managing the spread of infection within our healthcare setting.
Role and Responsibilities:
The IP is responsible for the implementation and review of the facilities infection prevention program and ensures that existing standards and guidelines are incorporated into the program. He/she will serve as a consultant and resource person regarding infection prevention issues for all facility personnel, residents, and families and will implement infection prevention education programs. The IP should be a highly energetic individual who demonstrates a desire to develop and implement the infection prevention and control program. The IP should have excellent written and oral communication skills, display leadership and creativity, possess time management skills, and be flexible and adaptable.
DUTIES:
- Conduct rounds and monitor infection prevention practices with staff
- Collects infection data from all departments and maintains records of each healthcare associated infection
- Conduct yearly in services for staff
- Develop/Implement infection prevention control in policy and procedure
- Knowledge, continued training, and data input to NHSN
- Conducts outbreak investigations
- Trains staff on implementation of infection prevention practices
- Investigates incidents of infection and reports to the Director of Nurses
- Provides advise for all staff members regarding the management of infectious residents
- Coordinates the annual infection control risk assessment
- Develops and implements an infection prevention plan
- Develops and leads a QAPI team for infection prevention goals
- Utilize evidence-based practices published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
- Ensure compliance with regulations and requirements from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
- Be familiar with the following F tags: F880; F881; F882; F883; F690; & F757
- Understand and implement Antibiotic Stewardship activities
- Track and monitor antibiotic use and resistance
- Working knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations, OSHA, CMS, and CDC.
- Understand reporting requirements
- Track employee and resident influenza vaccinations
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Possess a valid RN license in the State of WI
- Certificate in Infection Control (CIC) or willing to achieve this within 6 months
- Previous experience in teaching, program development, and instruction preferred
