Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Crew Chief to join its Survey team in Houston, Texas!

Responsibilities:
Conduct field surveys independently or with the assistance of other field crew staff. Responsible for performing and/or overseeing all field survey activities on assigned projects of varying complexity, using standard equipment, work, and safety methods. Perform site safety leader functions on site.

Plan and perform an increased variety of field surveys within the defined project scope and budget, using the most efficient methods and in accordance with applicable standards of practice.

Interact with project site supervisors and client field representatives with a focus on representing the company professionally.

Able to follow field defined field procedures and to suggest improvements to said field procedures as needed.

Take detailed notes of interactions with client representatives and share said notes with PM.

Prepare accurate, and sufficiently detailed survey field notes. Participate in archiving process for field notes at the office.
Perform in-field calculations for construction stakeout and various land surveys with moderate assistance from the office support team. -
Demonstrate initiative solving problems encountered in the course of the survey. Demonstrate self-sufficiency.

Operate and maintain the survey vehicle in accordance with the Company vehicle manual.

Maintain, transport, and operate the instruments and equipment associated with surveying land and preparing the job site for a survey.

Adhere to corporate and client Health and Safety program(s) and all applicable SOPs.

Prepare the health and safety checklists for each new project. Review and instruct other crew personnel on all safety hazards, PPE, etc., associated with the work.

Use and instruct others to properly collect data from Total Stations, Data Collector, GNSS, and other specialized survey equipment. Experience with Leica field equipment is preferred.

Electronically transfer field data files, photos, and associated forms to the office team daily.

Provide daily debriefing report to PM regarding progress, issues encountered, and plan for next day.
Mentor junior field survey staff to facilitate advancement. -
20-25% of projects may require out-of-town overnight accommodations. Applicable per diem rates will be paid.
Qualifications:
- High School/GED or equivalent.

5+ years of related experience, 2+ years as Junior Crew Chief.

Valid Driver’s license required.

Ability to obtain Drone License 107 is preferred.

Experience with Leica field equipment is preferred.

Advanced knowledge of surveying practices and equipment.

Effectively work as a team, collaborate, contribute, and respect others.

Knowledge of survey principles, and how to effectively manage error budget to remain within project specification.

Effective communication skills with a focus on keeping office staff up to date with progress, and issues encountered.

Advanced organizational and prioritizing skills.

Ability to read, write, and understand English to comprehend written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
Requires a pre-employment drug screen and will require ongoing participation in the employer's random drug and alcohol testing program.
