JOB DESCRIPTION
The Joint Industry Board is seeking an experienced IT professional to develop programs and reports in an IBM mainframe systems environment, perform troubleshooting, validation, and data analysis, in addition to the following:
- Develop and maintain programs and reports in IBM mainframe VSE system environments to build new features and create new services
- Perform troubleshooting, system testing validation and data analysis
- Translate detailed requirements into functional system designs
- Diagnoses and debug software and/or data problems and performs problem resolution
- Assist with migration and optimization of mainframe applications and data
- Create secure code and document all programs to facilitate future maintenance by others
- Follow privacy and confidentiality best practices while dealing with sensitive Personal Identifiable Information (PII)
- Create or re-create and validate mainframe reports using a combination of programming and/or reporting tools
- Ensure application documents comply with IT Policies, Procedures, Authorization and Controls prior to promotion to any production environment
- Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members, supervisors, other IT teams, and employees from other departments
- Other duties as assigned
Work Environment
This job operates in the information technology department of a professional office. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as desktop computers, phone, headset, scanner, printer, keyboard, photocopiers, shredder, and fax.
Physical Demands
Semi-sedentary work environment with physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the functions of this job.
This job requires walking to other departments to meet with other IT staff and users to discuss requirements and troubleshoot problems; occasional setup/movement of personal computer and peripheral equipment to correct technical problems.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time onsite 35 hours per week– Non-Exempt (OPEIU Local 153) position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 8:30AM-4:30PM.
Flexibility: Must be flexible and available; overtime or on-call work may occasionally be required.
Travel -- No travel is expected for this position.
Required Experience, Skills, and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred, or a combination of education, experience, and relevant certifications may be considered
- 5+ years of software development experience in developing business critical applications; hands-on troubleshooting, and deployment experience required
- Mainframe development expertise in COBOL, CICS, DLI, VSAM, VSE JCL required
- Knowledge of RPG II and MS EXCEL preferred
- Ability to perform detailed analysis for maintenance and enhancement projects in the batch and online environments
- Detailed and thorough familiarity with unite, functional and regression testing
- Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities
- Strong written/oral communication and presentation/interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Excellent customer service focus
- Familiarity with all aspects of the SDLC, from requirements definition through production support
- Knowledge of ICCF, DITTO, CA DYNAM, Syncsort, QWS 3270 emulation, Data Domain/Data Library for Mainframe (DLM) a plus
- Experience with payrolls, benefits, pension, annuity and/or COBRA applications a plus
- Experience in Distributed Technologies (Nice to have/Willing to learn)
