POSITION SUMMARY
The Safety Representative works directly with the Safety Manager to instill a culture of Safety within the operation, including the office, yard and road transportation operations. This position supports the terminal safety management process and supports terminal staff and acts as designated site safety representative when necessary. The Safety Representative follows and helps implement procedures regarding regulatory compliance; provides on-going safety training and conducts qualification checks for both employee yard drivers and owner operators; conducts, and maintains records of, recurrent safety training for drivers and other terminal personnel; assists with the accident investigation and response process; conducts yard checks and inspects both trailers and tractors; conducts audits and inspections of the transportation safety process.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure compliance with the ICOA, state and federal regulations regarding transportation and workplace safety including but not limited to the following:
- Monitoring driver applications and the selection process
- Manages refresher and remedial training process for yard drivers, owner operators, and other terminal personnel
- Manages hours of service records for accuracy, violations and edits
- Audits logs on a daily basis to ensure regulatory compliance
- Promotes and enhances the Company’s relationship and reputation with the fleet of owner operators
- Acts as the liaison from the safety department to the owner operators, answer safety related questions, and advise them with regard to any specific problems or concerns
- Appropriate follow-up and documentation in dealing with preventable accidents
- Conduct safety training/coaching for drivers including subjects such as vehicle and driver inspections, load securement; video events; accident and incident reporting; hours of service limitations; and breakdown and road service procedures. Ensures online safety training is current.
- Assure driver qualification files are compliant by obtaining and transmitting required documentation including renewable items. Update safety systems as required
- Schedules and coordinates onboarding orientations and ICOA execution
- Review camera and system events and conduct remediation sessions related to Safety System triggered events or unsafe driving behavior
- Manages electronic equipment inventory
- Conducts yard walks to identify vehicle maintenance defects
- Conduct initial and recurrent required training for OSHA plans such as Emergency Action Plans and Hazard Communication Programs
- Ensure all required training is administered and maintained
- Support terminal personnel with understanding and compliance with OSHA regulations
- Conduct training on safety calls
- Participate in OSHA incident reviews with corporate EHS team
- Administer safety awareness and behavior-based safety programs
- Adhere to and enforce all ethical standards by which the Company operates.

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
Prior experience in a transportation management and/or safety management role.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Intermediate knowledge of Word/Excel/PowerPoint
- Prior experience with transportation management software
- Working knowledge of federal and state safety laws, particularly FMCSA & OSHA standards and regulations
- Understand and apply meaningful operations and safety performance standards and statistical analysis
- Ability to plan and execute events, safety meetings, accident review meetings, and safety celebrations
- Excellent organization skills, with the ability to multitask
- Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Generally sedentary office work environment but required to frequently conduct training and inspection in warehouse, yard and shop facilities as well as on and around trailers and trucks. Some climbing on ladders and steps required. Walking, standing, bending and stretching for extended periods of time. Lifting up to 25 pounds. Must possess ability to work nights and weekends where operations require.

Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 45 per week
