JOB GOALS:
To administer all areas of departmental operations and to provide leadership to all subordinate department employees in a professional and effective manner in order to contribute to student achievement by providing safe, reliable transportation services and to support the District as it provides students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to be lifelong learners. This person customarily and regularly exercises discretion and independent judgment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a minimum of three years of experience as a manager of a pupil transportation organization
- Must have knowledge of fleet management principles and procedures
- Must have a working knowledge of district, state and federal policies and laws related to the transportation of students and the maintenance of vehicles
- Must have well-developed human relation and communication skills
- Must have the ability to effectively use computer technology (e.g. MS Word, Excel, routing programs, etc.)
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred
- Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger, “S”, and Air Brake endorsements
- School Bus Drivers Instructors Certification
- Must pass a School Bus Drivers physical examination per Federal and State Department of Transportation laws, including substance abuse screening
- Must pass the State of Arizona Physical Performance Test for School Bus Drivers
- Must have Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP fingerprint clearance card
- Must have an excellent attendance record
- Must possess excellent oral, written, and telephone communication skills

COMPENSATION: $92,088 - $126,050

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Provide leadership in all facets of Department operations
- Recommend new hires, screen, interview, train, assign, terminate and transfer for the purpose of maintaining staffing needs and productivity of the workforce
- Supervise and evaluate all department employees
- Maintain all State & Federal requirements for all Drivers Certifications
- Administer annual, post-accident, and random drug & alcohol testing
- Administer all aspects of transportation procedures including data input and to be proficient in the use of all Department software including the Transfinder Routing and Scheduling software
- Schedule and make available all requisitioned District vehicles
- Serve as a substitute bus driver
- Operate all vehicles in a safe, efficient manner and transport only authorized students and personnel
- Communicate with all department employees and District staff in a positive, professional manner
- Coordinate all basic checkout and emergency procedures
- Provide departmental reports as requested
- Attend mandatory department meetings
- Assist Administration in determining school attendance boundaries
- Maintain confidentiality of information pertaining to staff and students
- Research new equipment/vehicles, laws, regulations, etc. for the purpose of recommending purchases, contracts and proper maintenance of district wide services
- Oversee vehicle preventative maintenance programs and activities for the purpose of ensuring school vehicles are maintained in a safe and effective operating condition
- Submit reports required by law to the appropriate agencies and maintain appropriate records
- Keep the “chain of command” informed as to what is happening within the organization
- Project, submit and execute annual budgets as required by the business department
- Develop and monitors budget allocations, expenditures, fund balances and related financial activities for the purpose of ensuring that allocations are accurate, revenues are recorded, expenses are within limits and/or fiscal practices are followed
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
