Toshiba America Energy Systems Corporation (TAES) provides energy industry solutions – new equipment, retrofits, maintenance, outage planning and more – for current and future power generation needs in the Americas, including thermal, hydro and nuclear power plants.
Position Summary
We are seeking an engineer for the role of Field Service Engineer to work in the Field Service department of Toshiba America Energy Systems Corporation. The Field Engineer, Field Service provides engineering and technical support and may perform as Site Shift Supervisor for labor at project sites. In addition, they may serve as overall project lead on smaller scope turn-key projects. Activities may involve, but not be limited to support on steam turbines, generators, valves, and auxiliary systems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Field Engineer
- Provides technical guidance and engineering expertise in support of project site work
- Work may be for service, repair, installations, or fleet outages
- Advise and support disassembly, repair, and assembly of power generation equipment and auxiliary systems
- May support power generation equipment start up activities
- Supports trouble shooting activities
- Coordinates with Toshiba design groups as directed by Project/Site Manager
- Provides engineering information by answering questions and requests
May Assist Project as Site Shift Supervisor
- Supervises site labor assigned to project activities
- Manages shift activities
- Approves labor timesheets
- Submits shift work activity reports
- Coordinates shift activities with Project/Site Manager
- Notifies Project/Site Manager of all issues that can/might impact project schedule or costs
- Submits expense reports in a timely manner to allow Project/Site Manager to finalize project costs
Proposal/contract planning support
- May assist Project/Site Manager in project development as assigned
- Ensures technical requirements are met in the end product; addresses technical issues with sub-contractors and suppliers
- Writing field service final reports
- Develop field service skill set
Education and Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Must be able to read work documents.
- Above average verbal and written communications skills, including organization and direction of technical personnel, experience in procedure and process documentation and technical report writing.
- Familiarity with product and document management, including PDM systems is preferred.
- Experience in installation, repair, or refurbishment of power generation equipment.
- Preferred experience working with industrial generators and turbines
- Knowledge in the use of PCs and PC application software is necessary. Proficient in MS Office (WORD, EXCEL, PowerPoint), Familiarity with AUTOCAD is a plus.
- Must be able to read construction drawings
- Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work with little to no supervision
- Must have good organizational and time management skills
- Must be able to work in a construction and cold weather environment
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Certified Steam Turbine, Hydro or Nuclear technology training by Toshiba or equivalent company is preferred
Travel
- Over 50%, or may be assigned to a long-term project site
- Must be able to travel 90% of the time and work significant overtime

The employee must be able to drive and work extended shifts.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places, and risk of shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme heat, extreme cold and wet, humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.
