FuturEdge a STEAM school, seeking an innovative and passionate Social Science Teacher for grades 6-8th. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to bringing social science to life through interdisciplinary instruction and a project management approach. This role is crucial in teaching civics and government and in helping students build life-long skills aligned with the IB learner profiles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive social science curriculum aligned with IB standards and the school's educational goals.
- Plan and deliver engaging and effective lessons in civics, government, and other social sciences.
- Create a dynamic and interactive classroom environment that encourages critical thinking, inquiry, and student participation.
- Utilize a project management style to facilitate hands-on learning experiences and real-world applications of social science concepts.
- Integrate interdisciplinary instruction to connect social science with other subject areas, enhancing overall student learning and development.
- Foster the development of IB learner profiles in students, encouraging attributes such as inquiry, knowledge, thinking, communication, principles, open-mindedness, caring, risk-taking, balance, and reflection.
- Assess student performance and provide constructive feedback to support their academic and personal growth.
- Organize and supervise social science-related extracurricular activities, clubs, and events to further promote student interest and engagement.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop and refine the social science curriculum, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of students and adheres to IB guidelines.
- Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and the school community to support student success and well-being.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and other relevant information.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in social science education and IB instruction.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, Education, or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
- Valid Nevada teaching certification in Social Science or related subject.
- Experience teaching social science at the middle/high school level; experience in an IB school is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of project based learning and commitment to interdisciplinary instruction.
- Proficiency in teaching civics, government, and other social science subjects.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to inspire and motivate students to develop a lifelong love for learning and civic engagement.
- Strong organizational and classroom management skills.
- Commitment to ongoing professional growth and development.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with project-based learning and project management in an educational setting.
- Knowledge of current trends and best practices in social science education and inquiry-based learning.
- Ability to incorporate technology into social science instruction.
