GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Perform mechanical maintenance work on equipment utilized in the generation of electric power. The skillsets utilized will encompass some of those typically associated with Millwright, Machinist, Mechanic and Welder crafts. The work will be performed to assure the safe, reliable and efficient generation of electricity.
GENERAL EXPECTATIONS
- Will be knowledgeable of and follow all safety rules, procedures and practices.
- Will, when directed by supervision, report to assigned locations for the purpose of receiving training and will actively participate in the training activities.
- Will carry out assignments in training for an/or performing firefighting and first aid.
- Will, during the normal performance of his duties, watch for an promptly report to supervision any damaged or defective equipment or conditions which may cause damage or injury.
- Will keep all equipment, tools, materials and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
- Will report as directed to any facility for any shift where needed.
- Will perform work in a responsible and cooperative manner to facilitate a positive working environment.
- Will compile information and generate reports, forms and documents as required.
SPECIFIC EXPECTATIONS
At a minimum, contractor is expected to:
- Maintain, repair, inspect, install, rebuild, and construct all types of power plant equipment and structures throughout the station; diagnose the cause of an correct trouble that develops in such equipment.
- Work in connection with the inspection, repair, maintenance and alignment of all types of mechanical equipment such as: turbines, boilers, scrubbers, motors, pumps, valves, compressors, motorized vehicles, etc.
- Lay out any type of rigging used in the work; direct or work on the erection of such rigging, and blocking.
- Mark blueprints to show any field changes which may have been made.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be willing to work inside and outside under varying weather conditions.
- Three to five years' experience in heavy industrial/power plant environment preferred
- General working knowledge of power plant operations preferred
- Familiar with basic maintenance requirements for equipment operated with ability to perform some routine maintenance procedures
- Ability to work shift schedule
- Understanding of OSHA safety rules in heavy industrial/power plant environment
SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be observant and have normal color vision acuity in addition to being able to detect abnormal operations through sight, sound, and smell.
- Must have thorough knowledge of basic power plant operations and of Lock Out/Tag Out systems
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required; Vocational or Secondary Degree is preferred
- Examples of equipment that the contractor should be able to work on may include but is not limited to: bulk material handling equipment: conveyors, chutes, silos, blowers (coal, limestone, ash, lime, power activated carbon, pulverizers.) hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, thermal insulation, refractory, and heat exchanges.
- Non-Core skills that may be required (facility/work dependent): Articulating man lift operation, forklift operation, operation of basic machine shop equipment (drill press, metal lathe, vertical milling machine) Competent scaffold builder, basic welding.
- Able to lift 50 pounds and work at heights and in confined spaces
- Able to read, write and speak English proficiently
