Our main practice is in Portsmouth, NH with additional offices in York, ME and Dover, NH (Opening in early 2025).
Position Summary
Atlantic Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic team member to join our dynamic workforce as a Medical Assistant. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in supporting our orthopedic surgeons by assisting with patient care, procedures, and administrative tasks. Your responsibilities will include preparing patients for examinations and treatments and providing valuable support during office visits. Additionally, you will play a key role in ensuring seamless communication between patients, healthcare providers, and administrative staff. - Internal Relationships: Office Staff, Clinicians, AOSM and Procare Providers

Position Requirements
Licenses or Certificates: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)
Education, vocational training, and experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Intermediate to advanced computer and data entry skills
- Physically present and on site at AOSM required
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrates a friendly and professional communication style.
- Exhibits the ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks while maintaining composure under pressure.
- Proficient in fundamental computer skills, including internet navigation, email correspondence, and familiarity with Microsoft applications.
- 1+ year(s) experience as a medical assistant or a comparable role is required.
- Demonstrates a high level of organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to travel between 3 different locations (Portsmouth/Dover, NH and York, ME)
- Strong time management and problem-solving skills to effectively prioritize tasks and resolve challenges in a fast-paced medical environment.
Job Responsibilities
The Medical Assistant tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Welcome and escort patients to examination rooms, ensuring their comfort and readiness for the physician.
- Conduct interviews with patients to gather their medical history, measure vital signs, height, and weight.
- Collect and organize relevant reports and radiological results to prepare accurate patient charts.
- Provide assistance during treatments, including the removal of sutures and staples, preparation of injections, instruments, and materials.
- Administer medications as directed by the physician and offer clear explanations of treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physicians’ instructions to patients.
- Facilitate medication refills through e-prescription systems and communicate prescription details to pharmacies under authorized directives.
- Prepare examination rooms for patient visits, ensuring cleanliness and readiness.
- Sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies to maintain hygienic standards.
- Educate patients on the use of durable medical equipment (DME) as needed.
- Perform various clerical duties, including scheduling appointments, participating in phone triage, faxing prior authorizations and referrals, and managing electronic health records (EHR) efficiently.
